1940s - 1950s Pulp Lot:  You get 7 classic SF pulps (some of which feature artwork and stories by contributors whose names will be very familiar to GA and SA comics collectors) and 1 WWII-themed aviation/adventure pulp.

All of these copies are 100% complete readers.  The links appearing underneath each title listed below are for content details (NOTE: in the case of Daredevil Aces, a reprint is shown in the link -- the actual pulp offered for sale is 100% the real thing).

$75 shipped and insured for the lot of 8.

:news:  NOW... $50 shipped and insured for the lot of 8.

Famous Fantastic Mysteries - vol. 11 no. 4, April 1950. Incredible interior artwork by Virgil Finlay and Hannes Bok; novelette by Arthur C. Clarke.  Water staining to the back cover and the final 30 or so pages.

• Fantastic Adventures - vol. 10 no. 5, May 1948.  This copy is in very nice shape as pulps go.  Front cover reminds me of Ozymandias from "Watchmen"!

• Fantastic Story Magazine - vol. 2 no. 3, Summer 1951.  Interior artwork by Alex Schomburg.  Front cover is barely attached; staples are rusted.  Water staining to the front and back covers and the last 20 pages or so.

• Fantastic Story Quarterly - vol. 1 no. 2, Summer 1950.  Another fairly nice copy by pulp standards, and a terrific GGA cover, too.  Writing on back cover.  Interior artwork by Finlay.

• Startling Stories - vol. 28 no. 1, November 1952.  Another cool GGA cover.  Interior artwork by Schomburg; essay by Forrest J. Ackerman. Staples are rusted.

• Thrilling Wonder Stories - vol. 18 no. 1, October 1940.  Edited by Mort Weisinger, later of Superman fame, but this is where he made his bones.  Interior work by many GA and SA comics luminaries -- Frank R. Paul (cover artist for Marvel Comics #1), Edmond Hamilton, Otto Binder, Henry Kuttner, Manly Wade Wellman.  Front cover and first page are barely attached; back cover is completely detached.  Edges are chippy -- it's rough, but it's all there!

Vintage Perry Rhodan SF Paperback Lot:  THE classic German space opera series, translated into English -- cited by George Lucas as one of many influences on Star Wars!

This lot includes the following 19 books from the '70s series published here in the US by Ace (under the patronage of Forry Ackerman!):  #4 (2 copies, cover by Gray Morrow), 5, 24, 30, 40, 42, 54, 57, 60, 61, 62, 82, 91, 98, 100 (2 copies), 101, 113/114 (double - two novels in one book).

All of these copies date from ca. 1970 - 1977.  Several have price stickers and look like old store/reseller stock -- shelf/storage wear are about the worst of it.  Only a few appear to have been read.

$25 shipped and insured for the lot.

1970s Star Trek & Star Wars Children's Books:  Lot of two includes the following:

Star Trek Pop-Up Book - Giant in the Universe:  First and probably only US printing of this oddity from 1977 (originally published in Canada).  Price sticker residue on the front cover.  Book is complete, and all pop-up pages are 100% in-tact and functioning.  Barely used -- a few of the pop-up figures are not even "punched out" from the page.

• The Star Wars Storybook: This is the Scholastic paperback edition, published in 1978, featuring a simplified novelization of the movie, lots of full-color stills, and a handful of shots/angles/scenes (like Luke and Biggs on Tatooine) not seen in the final original cut -- a VERY big deal at the time!  A used copy with the original owner's name written in pencil on the front cover and inside front cover.  A pleasant and amusing relic from a much more innocent time.

$18 shipped and insured for both.

:news:NOW...$12 shipped and insured for both.

Yesterday's Tomorrows: Past Visions of the American Future:  This is the 1996 reprint of the original 1984 edition, which was a companion volume to a very cool Smithsonian exhibition.  The central conceit is that past conceptions of the future--in art, architecture, fiction, pop culture, etc.--both influence and in some ways undermine the present.  I mean, just where the hell are all those Jetsons' skycars today?!?

Here's a link to what the publisher has to say about it:

https://jhupbooks.press.jhu.edu/content/yesterdays-tomorrows

Paperback; 176 pages; profusely illustrated (see pics below).

And get this: the cover illustration is by Frank R. Paul -- the cover artist for Marvel Comics #1 (1939) who has already made an appearance in this thread in the pulp lot above.  So ya see...it all hangs together!!!! :baiting:

This is a new & unread copy: spine is tight; shelf/storage wear are the worst of it.

It'll cost ya $34 plus shipping from the publisher.  This copy is yours for…

$12 shipped and insured.

:news:  NOW... $8 shipped and insured.

SOLD!!!

Heavy Metal #1:

Pop in a Blue Öyster Cult 8-track and get ready to airbrush your conversion van -- this is the real deal from 1977!

Moebius.  Corben. The Hildebrandt Brothers.  Mezieres (of VALERIAN fame).  Vaughan Bode.  Druillet…and more.

If anyone tries to tell you that comics in the late '70s were nothing but a mainstream superhero wasteland of institutionalized mediocrity, they're full of beans.  This stuff was aces, and available at your local newsstand (even though it was sometimes filed with the skin mags).

VG/F.  Original subscription insert is present and still attached.

$50 shipped and insured.

:news:  NOW... $45 shipped and insured.
