Black Captain
It has been a while but I figured I would add Detective Comics #135 May of 1948 (Published in Canada on the cover). CGC notes Canadian Edition. Priced at .10 cents on the cover. I made an error. CGC also states as publisher "National Comics Published" instead of DC comics, like the regular version. The-Collector
Not sure if these count they are really cover swipes as opposed to variants: aardvark88, Cpt Kirk and porcupine48

The-Collector
I see this one has already been listed but I've always wondered why they thought this change was necessary. porcupine48

Given how haphazard the striping looks, I'm guessing that it was something they were trying in production that somehow slipped through that they didn't mean to. Is one version more common? There's a variant of my all-time favorite crime book, the book Wertham cited more than any other as a comic book that will rot little kiddies' brains and turn the youngsters into psychopathic killers? I'm annoyed at myself for not finding this thread earlier. So, is this variant one what has the date blocked out in the indicia? Who might be able to provide more info on this? Lots of black ink absent from Batman's cloak too in the blue price version - some obstruction on the black printing plate perhaps? And it's a bit off register. Cpt Kirk
This posting gives more details on those Special Edition comics that were made during WWII as teaching aids for Navy sailors. I consider these to be some of the earliest DC "variants".
