With my copy now at CGC, I'm reminded that Top-Notch 22 is a rare book (just one copy currently on the census and I believe it's the Church) that has the first appearance of Archie in a full-page ad.

Anyone here have a copy? hm

This book has the same ad...

Are you trying to start up the old Jackpot 4 argument again.  (tsk)

Clearly this Special Comics has a cover date of Winter 1941, similar to Jackpot 4.  Since Pep 22 has a cover date of December 1941 and was deemed to be out well before Jackpot 4, then I guess since Top-Notch 22 also has a cover date of December 1941, then Special Comics 1 is not going to win this case.  hm

Uh.... no.

No argument with you as I am in full agreement with your point on the Top-Notch 22.  (thumbsu

I was just trying to  :baiting: and tease Richard for trying to advance the argument for Special Comics #1.

It's probably the glass of the helmet magnifying his face in the image. (:

And on the cover it's Buster as Buck Rogers, to go with the Frazetta Famous Funnies covers.  It's only inside that it's Buster as Flash Gordon, to go with the other Williamson Flash Gordon stories.  (I find it neat that the issue really does work as a precursor to both those distinct runs by those creators, given that Buster Crabbe did play both characters at different times.)

The girl isn't wearing a helmet...  I'm not saying its bad - just not up to par with the Famous Funnies covers.

I've never owned a copy of that one, but I did just see the posting of the interiors.  Those innards make me want a reading copy real bad.

Another book I'm a fan of is More Fun #55.  A few copies have come to market over the last 6-12 months but its a scarce book.  Prices have escalated over the past year but nothing too dramatic.  Same thinking as Police #1 - 1st GA appearance of a major character that's under the radar but hasn't exploded due to the lack of any Hollywood news/prospects.  Still great books with a lot of long-term upside.
