ASM - Legacy numbering

I would be much more excited about a return to classic numbering on all of the titles -- if history didn't tell us that Marvel will "cancel" them all again for another #1 renumbering.

They've done it too many times already. If they're trying to recapture people who abandoned their line, there's a lot of people who won't take the bait.

In Venom 150 they included a cover gallery showing all the issues. I'm sure they will do the same again.

It is very messy. If only they never started messing around with numbering in the mid 90's.

Hopefully this is the last time.

I don't believe that. The pic posted by @bababooey says it all. The renumbering has nothing to with respect for the original numbering, the only desire was to get as quickly as possible to a massive number, which 'justifies' another hoard of variants in order to boast the sales. Therefore, I think the so-called legacy numbering will last for 25-30 issues at most. At that time they will be around #815-820, a year will have passed since the #800 and sales will have dropped again to the standard level. They will need another artificial way to increase interest and sales and a #825 will not do it.

If they had true respect for the orginal series and numbering, ASM would have restarted at 701 after Superior Spider-Man, just as they did after the brief interruption by Amazing Scarlet Spider. That would have made volume 3: 701-718 and volume 4: 719-750. I think they didn't want to do that as it would have meant that the big #750 (ASM vol4 #32) would be a simple tie-in.

I would love them to keep with the legacy numbering, but it's clearly to milk a Thor 700, an ASM 800, the milestones for Daredevil and Avengers, wait a bit and then go back to #1's and return to original numbering for 900's.

Also - I'm surprised that with all the generations and legacy and whatever the other events are that they're not throwing back to the original Wolverine numbering as that I think is closing in on #400 by now.

Indeed. They'll probably cancel at 990, run 9 new issues and then revert to legacy when the time comes....

True, but they pretty much did after v2, but I could also see them rebooting/relunching at issue 850, 888 or whatever then rejoining the numbering for a special 911 anniversary edition or 950 or 999 and continue on to 1000.

This close to it, it's inevitable. I think that's about when I'll just stop buying ASM.

After reading (and being thoroughly confused by) this post, I have never been happier that I stopped at ASM #1-441...

A wise decision @hippiecop1 !

Now, I see that you exist on the system twice and need to have your two accounts merged.

You can ask admin to put it right by following the info here:

Good luck!

Thanks, Marwood & I.  I tried to merge once before, but gave up.  Giving it another try...:wishluck:

As long as they don't make a .1 variant of you as well!

Yep. How long with this last before they reboot.
