I've finally found a few generic image newsstands in the local cheap-o boxes but they are in a condition that I am not going to buy. I figure these things are not rare enough that it is worth even 3 for $2 to get a 5.0 copy.

probably not in most cases, unless you feel like collecting them just for the hell of it.

Yep, those would be undercopies until you get better ones just to keep from having holes in the collection.

What year does the direct market take over quantity wise from newsstand? As an example, are there more Hulk 271 (1982) direct than newsstand and is the perception different from the reality? Most people see newsstand and think rarer.

I think its in the 80's but probably not that early.  More likely later 80's IMO.  I'm guessing RMA would have the info.  Its also hard to say because of the 'return' situation back then.

I agree as the direct mrket was still in it's infacy in the early 80's. To my point, I guarantee that people are still choosing the newwstand as the rarer version of the two. I'm sure high grade versions are rarer, but not overall.

I've been on fire as of late finding ASM Price Variants... I found 7 ASM Newstand/Price Variants yesterday at HPB for $1 each! I introduce the VHTF ASM 509 & 514 with minor key 1st appearances...

It seems that certain Image NS are more difficult for some folks than others. I wonder if there was a higher regional distribution for some books. I have every early Image newsstand except Wildcats 1 and 2 for some reason, but I have seen others with multiple copies. Here is one with a great cover variation I have not seen posted yet. It was one of the harder Image books to find for me personally and i'm a very active digger. This is scarce on the bay as well. Unknown whether because of rarity or lack of interest.
