Evolution of Earth Two
1 1

6 posts in this topic

Could someone explain the publication evolution of the Earth Two* concept at DC in the 60s?

Flash of Two Worlds was presumably written to accommodate all of those older Flash comics sitting in used book stores.** How then did the JLA/JSA crossover come about? And at what point was the Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman continuous publication problem addressed by creating Earth Two versions of them? When did those three characters start getting their own separate histories?

Maybe there has been an article about this that someone could point me to.

*Is the Earth Two vs Earth-2 nomenclature difference just another example of eroding copy editing and style. Discuss!

**Interestingly, this may be the first time the back issue comic market affected the content of the stories themselves. Thoughts?

This guy's posts are fascinating and very thorough. He's done a lot of work delineating the two earths from each other. Hopefully that helps some.

Cool!

This is awesome.  The author uses the first appearance of Topo the octopus to indicate the first Earth 1 appearance of Aquaman, which is an interesting idea.  I can just picture the cherrypickers claiming they've been Topo fans for years, and asking for a discount because they want to pass along his first appearance to their kids! lol
