Now, what nice piece from a major known artist worth a couple mil. requiring a certain level of knowledge to be recognized has been overlooked ...

Modern artist (dead).  Piece had to be authenticated (which is near impossible in the snobbish art world).

My friend hired a forensic specialist to look for any fingerprints on the painting, real CSI stuff..... bingo!  They found fingerprints and bingo, the prints matched the artist.

Ka-Ching!

That is SUCH a good idea!  I'll tell my friend.

Not my "league" at all, but very interesting nonetheless ...

You might want to tell your friend also that the 9.0 WW#1 sold for $291,100 at the end of last year (Nov. or Dec.) by only 1 offer: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=677327

Curious to know what he's going to end up with ... :wishluck:

It would have to be a very special Action 1 for me to go that route. Most 2.0 are pretty ugly which I would never be satisfied owning. I would rather pursue a nice Batman 1 or Superman 1, hell why not chase one of the incredible Wonder Woman books that are going to be auctioned on eBay

I can certainly appreciate what you area saying about wanting a good looking book.

In MOST cases I might tend to agree with you and I am rather certain I am in the minority here, but I would take even this rag copy of AC1....

Over even this simply stunning copy of AF15......

Provided it was solely for my personal collection (not for resale value).

Clearly the AF15 is worth more $$$$ on the market (and is a much better lookin book), but I am just a simple collector and so the FMV is not what I am looking at.

To me, there is simply no substitute for the king of comics, AC1.

(please note that neither of the books shown belong to me).

I would take that copy but there are 1000s ahead of me for that as you know Hudson.

Yes, Harold, there are a line of people wanting an AC1 (even a rag like that one).

In the case of the book shown, there was only one guy in line (besides me), when it came up for sale.  Unfortunately for me, even though he was behind me in line and I offered to buy first, the seller still sold to the other guy, instead of me (as the other guy was a long time customer and I was a nobody with cash).

Maybe neither one of us are destined to own a copy.

I know the whole story. The people on the boards that know you was :wishluck: for you to get that book and you got the kryptonite end of that deal sorry :sorry: I love the name on the cover. I have so much trouble getting a copy of Action 7 that I gave up on the 1

Yes, my friend, there were several board members (including you and Primetime (who first told me about the copy for sale last year)) who were routing for me.  In the "aftermath" of the deal falling apart, I drew a lot of strength and encouragement from those on the board who had been cheering for me.  I owe each of them many thanks.

At this point, like you, I have pretty much given up on the AC1 (unless one just falls out of the sky and lands on me).  I am happy with the issues I have and consider myself blessed.

I hope you can find yourself a #7, for a "reasonable" price, before too long :wishluck:.  It is amazing (and IMO unfortunate) how much the 7 has risen in value.   I understand that it is Superman's second cover appearance, however, it is hard to imagine how that makes it worth so much more than the issues around it.  Perhaps I am bias as I enjoy the non Superman covers.  I would think an AC2 (Superman's second appearance) would be worth more than a 7, but  the market does not seem to agree.
