I'm expecting a package of 15 slabs on wednesday in The Netherlands...if there are any errors like this i'd be willing to fly out to Florida

to return and escort them.

It's pretty hot here this time of year I'd recommend hanging on to the books for a few months before coming. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

At this point, it might be nice if CGC issued a formal statement on this board  about what happened and what measures are being taken to insure that it doesn't happen again.

In grading my best understanding is that once a book is graded, that grading is double checked by someone else and affirming it. Maybe they should think about process on shipping  using the same methodology.

At one point  in Santa Fe , We sold a sculpture for over 7K and our employee dropped it going out to the parking lot. You have to ask that person exactly what they were thinking about when there should have only been one immediate thought in their mind..

Just out of curiosity what would have been the grading fees for these 3?

Three percent of fair market value.  So something on the order of $3,000.

Wait...I never had anything slabbed nor do I intend to but are you saying that all grading is not a fixed price? So the more rarer comic will command a high price, now that's unfair and must put off a lot of collectors.

you get it now. It's a closed loop.  What happens next is determining who says what FMV is. Is that GPA, or CGC or... what?.  I had my AF15 graded and it's a 5.0. In January that was estimating at about $25K with GPA and seems like a long time ago.  The group that is selling the book for me says it's actually a lot higher and the auctions aren't even a good indicator.  No matter how you look at it, it's going to cost you a lot.  By the time you've looked at pressing, which does something similar and then grading along with the insurance costs sending it both ways, , then add on the auction house fees which in some cases include both a buyers and and a sellers premium, you're going to see a lot of barnacles on the underside of your boat.

I had this very same thing happen to me about a year ago. I had a submission coming back which included a Weird Science Fantasy 29 Gaines copy graded 9.6 and a few other lesser books. About $25K in books total. When I opened the package, there were a few signature series moderns worth a few hundred bucks in the box. As you can imagine, I flipped a lid. But CGC took care of it with amazing speed. They got a hold of the guy with whom shipping labels had been switched, he overnighted the books to them and then they overnighted them to me. I had my books within a few days. Free grading credits were included, I'm sure for the poor guy that had to give back $25K worth of books. But to say I had a stressful few moments before I got a hold of CGC (received the package on a Saturday) is putting it mildly.

Welcome to 17 years ago! This has been a complaint about CGC from Day One.

Things happen. They shouldn't happen often, but when they do it's nice to hear that everyone did the right thing.

:tink:  Cheers to honest people making good choices and others correcting mistakes.

Agreed totally. Way to go all around for everyone acting like decent human beings!

I had $40,000 of high grade silver (Flash 139 9.6, Batman 171 9.6, etc) that I had slated for imaging prior to shipping. Somehow afterwards the outgoing package was addressed to "Imaging" instead of my name. After kicking around the postal service for awhile and eventually getting back to Sarasota, they fixed it and I got my books. I remember placing a few irate phone calls on that one, and sweating bullets for a few weeks.

Well I just feel tremendously confident sending my books in after this thread!

On my recent submission they sent my Cap 1 through CCS without me requesting that they do so.  Thank God they didn't screw with it.

I know how you guys feel - I'd be pissed if they messed up my New Mutants 1 and X-Force 2s that I submitted.  It's almost the same feeling hm

Ever have CGC send you someone else's package? Well it happened to my friend yesterday. He was expecting a few books back, nothing special just some modern SS books he had signed and graded at Megacon, but he got something entirely different. Much to his surprise, when he opened the package he got not 1, not 2, but 3 copies of AF15. Apparently the owner of these books had a very sad day, because he got my friends books instead, LOL. Fortunately for the person who owns these AF15's no shenanigans were going on, my friend is an honest guy and a LEO. They were returned.

Wow !!  That's an amazing story.  One for the grandkids.  Honesty is the best policy
