Our very own Pablo (dreamtoreal1) graciously hosted the event and bought a cool book from me. A great time was had by all. For you local LA guys and gals, I will be doing the Valley Comic Book show this Sunday 5/23. I have not done a show since Jan 2020. I should have many boxes of GA/SA/BA. Many heavily discounted some not so much but a decent mix. I will be sharing a booth with local boy Jim Maley and we will be against one of the walls. I will be the older white haired guy with some sort of colorful comic character mask on. Come by and say hi. There will be a number of vintage comic books dealers there as well. Was digging through some boxes and ran into this. Made me smile all over again.. Many years ago, a non collecting friend gave me this. I was blown away and asked where it came from? He said his dad sent it to him thinking he might like it. Apparently, his dad was a "junk picker" on the east coast. He had found it in an old chest of drawers from a house he was clearing out. He called it a "drawer liner". These guys run into all kinds of stuff in their line of work. My friend knew I collected comics and wanted to know if I wanted it. I had to tell him it was a real early issue and worth money. I never really quote dollar figures in a situation like this because more than not if I am totally honest, I lose out. But I do have some ethics and felt I had to let him know it had value. He didn't care nor did he want to know what it was worth, he just thought I'd enjoy it. Several years later my wife and I were on the east coast junking and hooked up with his dad and thanked him for the book. He was glad "it went to a good home". So we took him and his wife out for a nice dinner. Cool guy and we had great dinner conversation. I have kept it ever since. I figured if I ever decide to sell it, I would split the profit with him. Got in a pile of books was this issue of Golden Lad #4 from 1946. Low and behold, was this ad for the Golden Lad Club! Now, I got another club kit to hunt down.
