Are you at all concerned about floor loadings? There would seem to be a lot of mass concentrated in some areas (obviously, I'm talking about the comics and books, not the toys).

I asked the contractor that when we were building the addition.  He told me he was building the new space so it could support another floor on top (we asked him to do that, as we wanted the option of adding a second floor someday).  So, he assured me that loading wouldn't be a problem.  We'll see if he's right.  Our shed is directly under that space.  If I see the shed's ceiling sagging, then I can add some additional supports.

I've thought about metal shelving, but it's really rare that I have to get to the bottom boxes -- only once or twice a year, and only for a few of the boxes.  And the frequently should be less over time as I finish my runs.  Sure, I'd have to get to the boxes if I want to read the comics, but I have so many comics, books, graphic novels, treasures, mags, pulps, etc., that I haven't read yet (and there's always new stuff being released too) so that shouldn't be a problem.

Like you, I really like seeing how others organize their stuff, and your layout is cool.  What's all the machinery in front of your boxes?  It looks like you have a serious video setup for both new and old stuff.  I have a small collection of LPs and Laser Disks.  I have a record player (just above the TV in the picture below).  Still need a decent LD player.   The one my brother gave me close to 20 years ago has lousy picture quality.

Yup, an old 30" Sony CRT TV, old  laser disc player (Sony too), old stereo amp (Marantz), old turntable, old speakers.

I like old stuff. Take my wife, please. (Boom tish)

Got a few DVDs too.

I don't want to muck up your thread though. I'm currently adding a few more shelves and I'll post the results in the "show us your comic room" thread in General.

One OCD thing of mine is comic box labeling. I prefer a cleaner look to the box and I don't write on them. I stick a small number, lower right corner so the books are all in strict alphabetical order (yes, I know "shuffling down" with new additions is a pain) and I can generally tell what's in the box through the cut out. Curtains are closed 99% of the time, so no fading.

One more pic then I'll leave you to it:

Duffman - You're more than welcome to post in my thread anytime!  I mostly write this journal for myself, to document my collecting life, but it's nice to see that people read it.

As to your numbering scheme, I started with numbers too.  But it was a major chore to shuffle the comics down as my collection got bigger (at it's biggest point, my collection got to 50,000+ comics; now I've pared it down to about half that).

So I changed my labeling to letters, i.e., A, B, C, etc.  Then, if I bought a big Action run, I'd add a second A box and label it A-2.  I'd re-label the first box A-1.

If I needed to add a box between A-1 and A-2, I'd label it A-1b.  I'd relabel A-1 to A-1a.  So then my A boxes would be A-1a, A-1b and A-2.

I used this approach for years, well over a decade.  It made it easier to file new purchases.  I still had to shuffle the boxes themselves (because the OCD in me required that I have the boxes in order), but I left space between boxes to make it easier. You're right, though, the boxes certainly didn't have the clean look of yours.

Over the years, I considered using other approaches.  Like, I'd have 1 main alphabet, and then I'd store new comics by year.  But there's something inside me that wants all the Actions together, in numerical order.

As I mentioned in my other post, eventually I moved to putting titles in their own boxes.  But I still have an alphabet of miscellaneous titles and comics.  That alphabet's in 10 long boxes.  For those, I have gone back to the simple labeling approach of 1-10.   Comic shuffling is no longer a problem, because I try not to buy comics if they don't have a home in the title boxes.

Game of Thrones Tonight!

Two and a half hours to Game of Thrones!  Although it'll start before then as we'll watch last week's episode.  Here are my prized GOT comics.  This one signed by Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa, and the unsigned copies too.

Whew!  I'm still trying to catch my breath after last night's Game of Thrones.   Here's another cast SS comic and a sketch cover of the Mother of Dragons.  Can't wait for next Sunday, but dreading it too as it's the last episode of the season.

Lady In White -- Additions

Here are additions to my Lady in White collection (@miraclemet).   To qualify for this set, the cover has to have a gothic feel to it, with a damsel in distress wearing a flowing white dress or gown.  The books have to be at least 9.0 (not for gold though, but I haven't found any gold yet that qualifies).  I'm thinking of easing up on the color requirement, as there are some covers that have that "gothic" feel with the damsel wearing a gown other than white.

Here are the list of comics that qualify for the set, at least the ones I've found so far.   It's a short list, unfortunately.  If you know of others, please let me know!  I'm particularly interested in golden age comics.  The closest I've found is Venus #1, but I decided it doesn't qualify because she doesn't look in distress.

Here are some pretty scarce mags from my collection that might fit the bill...or maybe not enough distress. They are text with illustrations, but the Gothic Tales of Love were published by Curtis, a Marvel imprint. They are two of the hardest to find Marvel mags out there.

I need to take proper scans of the other two.

Thank you!  I've never seen those before.  The first 2 are now on my want list.  Although I think I'll have to ease my requirement of at least 9.0 as I'll be lucky to just find them for sale sometime.  PM me if you ever want to sell yours.

Storing Stuff On Top of Long Boxes

Where possible, I store stuff on top of long boxes.  This is a picture of CB2 in the map.  You'll see I'm using a Superman (1939) long box to divide the space on top.

On the left of the Superman box, first I store treasuries in the back.  I used to keep treasuries in a treasury size box, but it took too much space.  Storing in piles is much more space efficient.  Not the best way to preserve condition, I know, but my stuff isn't high grade.

In front of the treasuries I store graphic novels in a stack, in alphabetic order by title.

To the left of the graphic novels goes my collection of books by Serpieri.  I bought almost all of these at the Heavy Metal table over a few years at the SDCC.

Then, in front of the books, I display a vintage AT-AT.

Planet Gets All the Love, But It's Rangers For Me

When you talk Fiction House, it seems Planet gets most of the attention.  But for me, Rangers is just as good, at least cover-wise.  Here are some of my favorites.

Yeah, definitely funky but I've always liked that cover for some reason.  I'd like to upgrade someday.

The Other Side of Superman

The other day I showed you what I've got on the left side of the  Superman box.  Here's the right side.

IMG_0238.thumb.JPG.4d4ddb33c49963db716dba5e3c136334.JPG

I built this simple shelf that is pushed against the wall.

IMG_0239.thumb.JPG.d13365c303e8b597ed3d1656eecec4a5.JPG

On the left side I store modern GGA covers.  There's maybe 50 comics there.  On the right I store my Steve Woron collection.

In front of those books, I display a couple of my favorite comics:  Amazing Spider-man 144 (the classic Gwen Stacy clone boots cover) and Cerebus 6 (the first appearance of Jaka).  In front of those comics, I store my small Lego figure collection.

New CGC Books (Junie!)

I also got this Junie from Harley at WW Philly.  I'm tempted now to collect the entire run in CGC, as earlier this year I got Junie 5 from @Ricksneatstuff.  Others, though, are hard to come by in decent grade.  There's a #1 in 7.5, but at $672.99 it's too rich for me (BTW I have never understood the 0.99).
