I like Tim Sales sign. He spells it right out to you. I also love it that he will sign 2 books for free (for real fans!). The CDNP is a great book. It's hard for me to sale if it is a "great deal". It is one that everybody wants so the price reflects this. What is it worth to you? I doubt you would lose money if you needed to sell it in a couple years. I would consider it...

Bob Storm has a 6.0 CDNP 24 on his website.

NY Comicon Report 6 - More Things I Want But Can't Afford

Friday is over.  I will eventually post my thoughts about the con, and stuff I bought, but here are a few additional things I very much want but are out of my price range.

Let me first start here though.  This was my after-con drink tonight.  A Maker's Mark Manhattan with a slice of bacon.  Let me tell you ... this was REALLY good.

And then for dinner, 2 patties, bacon, avocado and egg.  Combined with the Manhattan, life does not get much better.

Okay, so back to the con.  I want this Dave Steven's OA.  But at $11,000, it will have to find another home.

I want this one just as much, Sub and Gwen Stacy by Alex Ross from Marvels.  The price is $9000 for the pair.  Honestly, if I could just buy Gwen for $4500 I'd do it.  The dealer joked the Gwen by herself would be $8999.  I get that.  Who wants Subby?

Next up, It Rhymes With Lust.  Priced at $900 from Basement Comics.  I was very tempted by this but decided to pass.  This book is not as rare as I used to think.

I'll throw this one out there.  Girls' Love #154.  It's a nice copy.  At $50 I'd buy it.  But $125?  Geezy Peezy.

I'll say though, that what I'm willing to spend at this con is being impacted by my bids on the current C-Link auction.  I'll post more later.  Thanks for reading.

Really?  Why, it was a great place?

Illegal gas hookup (stealing natural gas), cheating employees out of a fair wage, and messy divorce.

Katz’s Deli is better anyway.

Wherever you eat, those sandwiches will cost over $20.

Thanks.  Sounds like karma caught up to them.

I've been to NYC twice in my life, paying $20 for a sandwich isn't a big deal on a holiday there.

Fun show with lots of great books. Practically every book I looked at was priced well above GPA or recent sales.  I did not buy any comics at the show sadly.

Yep, I agree, prices were aggressive.  Still, I had a good time, and managed to find a few books.

NY Comicon Report 7 - Wall Books

I'm back home from NY.  We only bought tickets for Thursday-Saturday, and that was exactly the right about of time.  The con was fun, but by mid-afternoon on Saturday I was getting bored.  The only reason I stayed the whole day was to pick up a couple of commissions.

Here are some dealer wall books.  Anthony Synder:

Steranko was there.  I was thinking about buying one of his prints (for $10) to get his autograph.  But he was charging $20 to sign, even if you bought something.  Since I already have his autograph I decided to save the money.

The same think happened with Neal Adams.  He was charging more than Steranko to sign, I think it was $30.  Neal included his sig if you bought something from his tables (he had a huge set up), but everything was expensive (the cheapest thing I saw were prints for $40).  Again, I already have Neal's autograph (on a few things) so decided to save the money.

I find some dealer setups hard to shop at.  Here the price is prominently displayed but you can't see the cover.  I think it would be better to reduce the sticker to just the price, so you could see both the price and the cover art.  Just my 2c.

This setup was even worse.  You weren't allowed to touch anything.  So, if you wanted to see something, you had to bring over the dealer.  Of course that's common for wall books, but this applied to much more for this dealer.  It wasn't worth the time to shop there.

NY Comicon Report 8 - Quest for a Frank Cho Sketch Cover

About a week before the con, a boardie asked for help to get a sketch cover by Frank Cho.  Apparently Frank doesn't take commissions at cons anymore.  Instead, he does a few sketch covers in advance, and sells them at the con.  This is one he was selling at NYCC (based on what he said on Facebook).

22181193_1406303656135078_5951631738776727387_o.jpg.f5cd916515ea3e8cafbacc319bbe3423.jpg

I was planning on spending time in artist alley, so I told the boardie I'd try to get a sketch cover for him.  Well, that didn't work out.  First, artist alley was an absolute zoo.  It was unbearably crowded.  Second, Frank was hardly ever at his table.  I went by Frank's table many times, and this is what I always saw (that is, I never actually saw Frank).

IMG_0526.thumb.JPG.84d5164c97c87cb88c7c4092562f0554.JPG

Third, I learned from talking to Frank's assistant that the sketch covers sold in seconds, and they sold for $800 instead of the $500 that the boardie thought they would be offered for.  So really I had no realistic chance to get a sketch cover for the boardie.

Frank had nice prints for sale.  I was planning to buy the Wonder Woman, but I was waiting to buy for when I saw him at his table, to get his autograph.  But, as I mentioned, I never happened to be by his table when he was there.  Then, by Saturday when I decided to buy it, the print was sold out.

I asked the dealer if I could take a comic out of the bag.  It was a Bone #2 priced at $4 and I wanted to see the printing.  I figured it was a late printing but I thought maybe I'd get lucky. Rather than just give me permission, the dealer himself opened the bag, treating the book like it was Action #1.  Remember this book was priced at $4.  It turned out it was the 5th printing which wasn't a surprise.   After that I didn't bother with any more of the comics in his booth.
