Joker, the new Todd Phillips film that follows the origin story of Batman’s biggest foe, hit theaters earlier this month and it’s already beaten some box office records. The movie opened to a record number of theaters for an October release, beat Venom’s previous Thursday night box office record for an October release, set a new record for a Monday box office in October, and became the top first-week October earner. The movie has now reached $600 million at the box office, making it one of the top ten grossing films of 2019 (so far).

Currently, Joker is ranked #10 for the year on Box Office Mojo's worldwide list and #7 on the domestic list. Domestically, it’s only topped by Aladdin, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and Avengers: Endgame. All of those movies have earned over $1 billion at the box office, so Joker still has a ways to go before it beats any of them.

Joker should pass $700 Million tomorrow as it attempts to become the biggest R-rated movie ever.

Warner Bros.’ Joker earned another $9 million on Friday, dropping 47% from last Friday’s $17 million gross. That brings the film’s 15-day domestic total to $227 million. Presuming it retains (or surpasses) the current 34.7/65.3 domestic/overseas split, it should have around $654 million worldwide. It has passed Ant-Man and the Wasp ($620 million) and Logan ($619 million) in global grosses. Today is the day it passes the global totals of Justice League ($659 million) and Man of Steel ($668 million), while passing the $229 million domestic cume of the Super Friends flick. With the presumption that DC Super Pets will probably not challenge Aquaman for DC Films supremacy, how weird would it be if Justice League remained the lowest grossing of the “big” DC Films flicks going forward?

Once it passes $700 million (tonight or tomorrow), it’ll be past It ($700 million) and behind only The Matrix Reloaded ($742 million in 2003), Deadpool ($783 million in 2016) and Deadpool 2 ($785 million in 2019) among all R-rated movies. There are two caveats to that milestone. First, China’s Wolf Warrior 2 (unrated but ridiculously violent) earned $854 million worldwide in the summer of 2017. Second, Deadpool 2’s initial R-rated gross was $318 million domestic and $735 million worldwide prior to the PG-13 Once Upon A Deadpool, which earned $6 million in North America and $44.4 million overseas, including $24 million in China. That said, there is a good chance that Joker will be the first R-rated movie to top $800 million, aside from Wolf Warrior 2.

The Todd Phillips picture should earn around $30 million (-47%) this weekend in North America for a 17-day domestic cume of $248 million. If the domestic/overseas split stays 34/66, the Joaquin Phoenix drama will be at around $715 million worldwide (just over Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) by tomorrow night. Once it passes $756 million global, it’ll pass Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw as the year’s biggest non-Disney/Marvel release, although the Dwayne Johnson/Jason Statham flick will retain the “biggest movie not based on a comic book” milestone. Both of those notches will likely only be challenged by Sony’s Jumanji: The Next Level when it opens on December 13. That’s no guarantee, especially if Joker magically snags a Chinese release date.

The actor, who played the character in 'Suicide Squad,' felt "alienated and upset" when Warner Bros. greenlit Todd Phillips' version with Joaquin Phoenix instead.

Just how unhappy was Jared Leto over Joker? As Todd Phillips’ dark take on the villain looks likely to gross more than $700 million worldwide, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Leto’s frustration that Warner Bros. was moving ahead with the Phillips project was so great early on that he tried to throttle the rival Joker in its cradle.

According to sources familiar with Leto’s behavior, when the Oscar-winning actor learned of the Phillips project, he not only complained bitterly to his agents at CAA, who also represent Phillips, but asked his music manager, Irving Azoff, to call the leader of Warners parent company (it’s unclear whether it was Time Warner’s Jeff Bewkes or AT&T’s Randall Stephenson, depending on the timing). The idea was to get Warners to kill the Phillips film.

A source in Leto’s camp denies that the actor made this request, and Azoff declined to comment, but a person with knowledge of the situation says Azoff never made the call. Azoff and Leto have since parted ways.

THR previously reported that the 47-year-old star, who played the grinning crime lord in 2016's Suicide Squad, thought Warners had strung him along with promises of his own Joker stand-alone film, only to greenlight the Phillips' version with Joaquin Phoenix instead. Ironically, Warners thought the Phillips project would be a small movie and, nervous about its dark tone, greenlighted it reluctantly with a small budget that some at the studio were hoping would discourage Phillips from making it.

Look up “absolute cell references“. If you put a $ sign in front of the column reference it won’t change, but the row will...and vice versa. And if you want the cell(s)/range to be completely static, place $ signs in front of both the column and row references...and regardless of your drag or copy/paste action the cells will be locked. I believe it’s F4 that’s the shortcut key to toggle through the various absolute reference options when implementing...

It worked! I had totally forgotten about this feature. :foryou:

If I want to keep the Row, put a $ in front of that (F$11). If I want the specific column, put a $ in front of that ($F11). If I want both, then insert in front of both ($F$11).

Watched this yesterday.  Too damned good.

Being a Marvel guy, I've long found Joker to be my favorite DC anything.  There's no true equivalent.

Just imagine the high those guys are on right now...taking that risk and having it pay off big. Happy for ‘em... It’s shocking the studio allowed it too...

achieved/upcoming (possible) Joker BO milestones:

>$252MM, other Best Picture contender: Dark Phoenix

>$366MM, critical smash, BO dud: Shazam

>$700MM, WB's biggest clown: IT

>$785MM, R rated king: Deapool 2

>$856MM, critical dud, BO smash: Venom

>$974MM, 2019's biggest solo CB movie: Captain Marvel (ex China)

Int'l still absolutely bonkers, $490MM going to $600MM+.  DP & Venom next to be knocked off the list.  There's a chance this gets to $1BB without China- insane.  Hopefully, Phoenix negotiated a good back end deal; if so, he's looking at RDJ- type money.

Perfection minus 2 casting changes. Alec Baldwin wud have been much better as Thomas Wayne. DiNero understandably casted in that role but should have gone to otherwise a Johnny Carson esque like performer. Maybe Greg  kinner.  Otherwise. Perfection.
