40 years of Edgar Church/Mile High copies

Church question... The earlier books have a pencil arrival date on many. There is usually a single digit number to the right. I think I read somewhere that indicated the number of copies of that particular book that was received by the store. Is this true? If so, the store received an incredible small amount of copies of some of these books. The fact that Church was so complete probably means the store put away a copy of every comic that came in for him. Kind of like Lamont Larson.

It's pretty clear that, at least during the late 30's, a store was holding a copy  for Church.  There are a small handful of copies that have his name written on them.

Insanely rare, awesome cover, high grade, Church, with the name, from 1938.
