Is the movie TV speculation age finally losing steam.  I Stopped paying attention to the latest hot book about a year ago. Feel sorry (not really) for all the people who dropped top dollar for books like FF 45

Or, are we just running out of 1st appearances?

I dont think the movie spec age is losing steam. In fact I think there are more trends added to it

If anyone told me last year that 90s Image drek newsstands are selling for big bucks Id have them checked in the nearest hospital.

Blame it on disposable income. Until the economy doesnt hit a ditch, expect to shed more money on (possibly) worthless currency

I guess I need to give DD another try.  We've started it a few times, and only got one or two episodes in.

The DD show did start slow and then begin to pick up.It got better as time went along while others didn't.

And it seemed to be filmed with a lot of Milleresque references so if you were a DD Miller fan back in the day it was even more enjoyable.

Did you like Jessica Jones, Roy?  I thought it started well, then began going into ridiculous, contrived situations..., much like the Walking Dead.  But overall, it was worth the watch.

I started to like it then it became an endless series of she captures him he escapes he captures her she escapes she captures him he escapes he captures her she escapes-

Not the stuff of high drama.  All the Marvel TV shows were jokes.  Bad jokes.

I suffered through the Miller run, and kept buying the title despite that.  But I won't hold that against you.

speaking of which, did that movie with the Inhumans ever materialize?  Sorry - I don't keep current with many of the movies.

Yes, I believe it did come out on only some limited IMAX screenings this past weekend and looks like it did something like $1.5M dollars domestically, with another $1.1M of foreign box office receipts.  :gossip:

Apparently, only peanuts from a total overall box office point of view due to the very limited release, but way at the top of the chart on a per screen average.  Doubt it'll ever go into general wide release however.  (shrug)

JJ started off well enough.  Purple Man had potential to be a great villain but it did kind of evolve into the bolded part above.

Daredevil was way better than I was expecting.  I thought Season 1 was great (I dug the whole "Man in Black" take), and S2 was solid as well.

Loved both seasons of Daredevil - but barely made it through The Defenders. DD looks so out of place being the only costumed character. And hot-headed Danny Rand lacking zen and self-discipline disappoints me.

Back on topic - I think there's still interest in comic-related movies and shows but the WOW factor is waning. Nevertheless they still draw attention to character first appearances and speculators will always be on top of this.

:jaws:

Of course theyre jokes, Marvel is applying their comic book marketing tactics to TV shows. Put out as many as you can with low budgets, the name should make them relevant. Rinse and repeat until we beat that horse to death

I think you're the first person I've ever encountered who described Miller's DD run as "suffered through" lol

I know the feeling though in the sense that I continued to buy X-Men years after I stopped enjoying it.

Me too.  I need to go back and read both DD and the new X-Men and see where I'm at now, and if the withstand any test of time.  I started DD about issue 80, collected all the back issues, and had read everything by the time Miller came around.  He changed the origin, with what I thought was a bunch of garbage (Stick?) and wasn't he the one that made a Karen a porn star?  Icck.  Not the hero I grew up with.

I actually don't ever remember enjoying the X-Men, but diligently collected them because they were everyone else was raving about them.  I did buy GS 1 and 94 - 200 or so off the newsstand, and bought a ton of multiples from about 129-150.  I had to buy some back issues in the 1-teens because they were disappearing off the grocery store spinner racks so fast.  X-Men were the easiest titles for me to give up buying due to the volume of spin-offs and mini-series, and I just didn't consider them worthwhile of the time to read them.

I liked the Stick angle, gave a more believable origin to how he learned to fight so well. Miller also inspired the greatest comic success of the 80's TMNT

Id say movie speculation is about 1/2 done. I think we are nearing the peak. Thanos should see another run up as the movie nears then maybe it might decline some, but its no where near being done yet. I am more then happy to continue to cash out on the high and suggest many others holding books like that do the same.

I agree with this sentiment. It does feel like we are in a comic movie/television bubble (boy, do I hate using that word). Honestly I think the peak is now, and cashing out is an option for some. The entertainment industry seems to be pumping out comic based movies/tv shows; capitalizing on the market while it's hot. I just wonder how long until people lose interest in this genre.

Am I cashing out though? Nah. This is a hobby for me and I enjoy the thrill of chasing the next book for my collection.

ImhNetflix opinion:

 #1 DD by a landslide!

#2 Luke Cage

#3 Jessica Jones

#4 Defenders

#5 Iron Fist

OP

I think movie hype isn't at ludicrous speed anymore - but still at a very accelerated pace for pricing certain comics
