IMHO, I think it is disingenuous to rank Phantom Lady #17 out of the top 3.

If everyone had a chance to get a Phantom Lady #17 within their comfort zone vs. the field, no one would blink and eye and snatch it immediately.

These results have without a doubt been tainted by the debate over Baker's contributions, which is a shame.

Pretending there were enough copies of all books for everyone and not regarding market values? Not sure ...

Here is the reality,

Phantom Lady #17

1. Historical Significance

2. Market Scarcity

3. Aesthetic Value

Poll of FMV kinda trumps all anyway (maybe an equally graded CL 25 wins that now dunno, never seen one for sale/auction)...On with it! I'm still curious to see how it plays out... it's interesting to see how people feel about these books... and thanks again for your effort and showmanship in the final countdown here.

PL 17 ranks high on most everyone's list of GGA covers and would almost certainly land at #1 if we took a poll.  Having talked with a number of GGA collectors over the years I can comfortably say it's not everyone's #1.  Baker or not, the female figure is not as well drawn as on other covers and not everyone likes that particular pornstar pose/body over other depictions of female beauty.2c

My wife looks at my copy and calls it my 1940s porn.

Agreed, I was all about the book covers themselves. :)

I agree with the above 3 points, for sure! Historic, scarce, and kind on the eyes. But there is one other point:

4. Drawn by Baker

This is the reason for the poor rankings of the PLs and Jo-Jo. As others have said, if this was simply about "best" cover, the PLs would likely all rise to the top 5.

As I just mentioned in a PM, this is turning out to be a romance collector's poll more than anything else.

True. Only one Horror and one Crime on the list. No Adventure, No War covers.
