Great Title Logos & Awful Title Logos
2 2

Not sure if anyone has done this before? I was looking at some comics this morning and got to thinking how important the title logo can be to the overall look of a book.

Here are some of my favourites from down the years.

I have to confess that I am a fan of the 'huge single coloured logo that takes up the whole width of the top of a cover' - like these two:

There's something very basic but striking about them.

And I like a logo that incorporates something about the character, e.g. Conans sword.....

.....or one which has a font type that captures the essence of the character like the spooky Werewolf! (and don't forget the all important 'By Night'. Used Car Salesman by Day anyone?):

And I do have a fondness for the 'ridiculous amount of words that take up half the flaming cover' logos, like this one which seems to go on for ever:

How cool is that?

Alas, some logos are just plain dull and do the title character a mighty disservice with their blandness. Case in point:

Bring back the bricks!

Got any faves or pet hates of your own? Let's see them if so :headbang:

I agree - just like the Hulk in my post above. A great logo replaced by a bland one

I always liked the "Strange Tales" logo.  Has that "50's Monster Movie" feel.  I really like it paired up with the early hero books.  The 50's style title block with the 60's Marvel heroes always made for an interesting mix.

Another logo change I was not fond of....

I agree again!  Change always seems to go down badly though doesn't it. Who can find a logo that went from bad to good? hm

The more I think about it, shouldn't the person who decided on this logo change have been sacked?

Why are they always worse than the original? hm

Someone find me a title logo that gets better!

Sorry mate -- the only changes from worse to better seem to involve undoing a mistake....

Good to bad to good we can find, yes..... :golfclap:

But there must be a straight forward bad to good out there somewhere @Paul_Maul:cry:

Great art and colouring from Richard Corben, but why obscure most of the cover with this enormous logo?
