1939 comics & history show and tell

Here's my only 1939 book, but it has a cool July 4 patriotic cover, and a movie ad on the back (for a Disney short, naturally).

I think I'm going to enjoy this thread. The Life letters were really interesting, as the tension between isolationism and involvement is pretty obvious.

Local history - In New York, where the majority of comics were created, there was a world's fair:

Cool cover!  Did "fresh" mean new or like... "Don't get fresh with me kid!" Fresh?

Jack Kirby was at the 39 Word's fair:

He was 21 at the 39 opening.

1939 Worlds Fair was the first exposition to be based on the future, with an opening slogan of "Dawn of a New Day", and it allowed all visitors to take a look at "the world of tomorrow".

The only major world power that did not participate for the 1939 season was Germany.

for some reason I always thought it was on a small island I didn't know it was in queens.

Does anyone have the 1939 World's fair comic?

Lamish cover but it was on the stand with Tec 27 (both with an on sale date of April 1939)

A low grader but I love the cover and the detail Fine puts into this as he does on so many

I'm not familiar with the current rates of diamonds, but I bet it's a bit different.

How much to go see the latest hit movie?

(Still a great movie IMO)

I own that movie, and it's funny that nothing has changed since then.  In fact, politics have gotten even more shady...:taptaptap:

Is that yours Bedrock?  It's amazing regardless.

Do we know where all the 1939 Superman and Batman Action and Detective original covers are/exist?

It is his and I believe it was on some video short about Bedrock that I saw with it.

Apparently he was walking home one day with $286,800.00 in his pocket and not knowing what to do with it when along came a Heritage auction....
