Saw this book listed on ComicLink and it caught my eye.

Curious, never seen this book.

 

Aren't these great.  I have the run of Blue Bolts from 102 through the end.  That logo started with #111 and a couple of issues sported Tales of Terror and subsequent title changes Blue Bolt Weird Tales then Ghostly Weird Stories.  Without looking back I believe the bats were on 111 and on.  Check out the covers of these - super Cole.

I agree.  They are neat books, although rapidly escalating in price.  I think the bat was just meant as a generic symbol of horror/terror.

And by the way outside of everything else great about these covers is there is no Boy Wonder mucking up things

A bat silhouette like that was always a common thing used to represent something scary since long before batman.  The earliest ones I can think of are the 1926 silent movie The Bat and the credits artwork from the 1931 Dracula.....
