I was just about to post on this, it would be great to have the entire Marvel Universe under a single entity, I think that would alleviate any confusion on the part of the audience and really open up potential story lines for decades to come.

Here's a Forbes article on it. By someone other than my boy.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/alishagrauso/2017/11/06/21st-century-fox-has-been-in-talks-to-sell-majority-of-company-to-disney/#7279a77d1b2d

Basic thrust -- With the Star Wars franchise gone, Fox doesn't think they have enough original content to launch their own streaming service a la Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, HBO Go or (most recently) CBS All Access.

Related: Disney's expected to launch their own streaming service next year, so enjoy films like Rouge One & Dr. Strange on Netflix while you can.

Intriguing, but not as left field for me as Amazon buying Whole Foods or CVS making a credible play to buy Aetna.

Since it was stated by Hugh Jackman he would come out of retirement if there was a chance of pulling together an X-Men/MCU film...

:wishluck:

Even OLDER MAN LOGAN?

They could actually do the full Old Man Logan storyline still if they wanted to, or most of it.  Just bring in Old Man Hawkeye and a bunch of inbred Hulks and really put it FAR in the future.  Don't even have to explain how Logan came back to life.  He healed, but reaaallll slow.

I think'd it be a big weird to crossover the existing Xmen and MCU in the present day.

BUT they could add some fox stuff that isn't used in Xmen yet.  Like Fantastic Four or Silver Surfer.

Don’t forget about Silver Surfer :cloud9:

And maybe some version of Galactus that isn't a cloud... after putting Thanos away there will have to be another heavy.

Would this possibly spill over to the theme parks also?  It is not an issue in CA but it hurts that in Florida they have to jump through hoops to use Marvel characters. But that licence is with Universal so maybe just dreaming. I have always thought a full Marvel themed park would be awsome.

I had heard this before concerning the uncut Star Wars copies. But this would be really cool to finally have them re-released.

If Disney Buys 21st Century Fox Could We See The Original Star Wars Cut Re-Released?

Quote

A high-definition set of all six films was released on Blu-ray in 2011, with there being no option to obtain the original films in definition better than a laserdisc transfer.

All possibility of an official re-release of the unaltered films was seemingly destroyed when Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the announcement of new films being made, thus cutting Fox out of the equation. While there have been theatrical screenings of the original trilogy to prepare fans for new installments in the saga, each of these screenings is the Special Edition versions of those films, as Disney would have to pay Fox for the rights to screen the unaltered original films.

Whether these talks between 21st Century Fox and Disney could lead to a theatrical re-release or a home video high-definition release, it's too early to tell. Unfortunately, reports claim that the talks are no longer taking place, but could resume at some point in the near future.

I wonder would Disney get the Simpsons, Planet of the Apes, Predator and Alien franchises as well from Fox?

hm

It would be one heck of an incredible portfolio of franchises and characters.

What Disney Acquiring 21st Century Fox Could Mean For Marvel, Star Wars And More

Quote

Marvel

If the sale is made, Disney will gain control of the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties for use on the big screen, allowing the franchises — two of Marvel Comics' most well-known brands — to integrate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The X-franchise (including Deadpool) has brought in nearly $5 billion worldwide since its start in 2000, and another spinoff will be released in 2018 while two others — Gambit and X-Force — are in the works and gaining traction.

Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) could operate separately in his own Marvel-produced series after Deadpool 2, or some cosmic mumbo jumbo could retcon Deadpool and supplant him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which would be keeping in line with the character's cheeky and irreverent sense of humor.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the latest in the saga and sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, is set to hit theaters next November — but if a sale to Disney is made, it's likely the film would serve as the bowing out of the long-running franchise.

Star Wars

Writer and director George Lucas’ original space opera was released to theaters as Star Wars in 1977, produced by 20th Century Fox with a budget of $11 million dollars. Unlike the five other George Lucas produced Star Wars movies, A New Hope didn't transfer over to Disney when the company purchased Lucasfilm for $4 billion in 2012.

The physical distribution rights for the Original and Prequel trilogies won’t be handed off from 20th Century Fox to Disney until 2020 — except for A New Hope, whose rights are contractually retained by Fox in perpetuity — but if Disney buys Fox, that problem goes away.

Avatar

Fox released James Cameron's Avatar in 2009, which would go on to become a box office phenomenon and the highest-grossing movie of all time. Cameron is currently hard at work bringing four Avatar sequels to life, to release between 2020 and 2025, and Disney opened Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney World's Animal Kingdom theme park earlier this year.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide joined forces with Cameron and Fox Filmed Entertainment in 2011 to bring the groundbreaking and awe-inspiring themed area to visitors, faithfully recreating the lush planet of Pandora, home to the blue-skinned Na’vi.

Planet of the Apes

Disney would also be gaining another box office heavyweight with the acquisition of the Planet of the Apes franchise, which Fox relaunched to big success in 2011. Sequels in 2014 and 2017 followed, the latter pair directed by The Batman's Matt Reeves, and were critical and commercial successes. The three films brought in more than $1.6 billion total at the worldwide box office, and the trilogy is generally regarded as some of the finest modern blockbusters — making future installments a no-brainer for Disney.
