Sales threads - oh the waiting , and waiting, and waiting.

Help me out here guys ( and gal) .......

How is it that you buyers have enough time to sit around and wait/watch for whatever it is you are looking for to somehow appear and you be the first to :takeit:

Am I missing something ?  It's so random.  Say you are looking for a copy of Batman 74 in Fine.  The odds of  a Batman 74 in FINE coming up are astronomical.

I much prefer ebay or CLINK or Heritage or even the Virtual comic con here  where I can immediately see/find what I'm looking for and go get it, to the sales threads here.

And I'm not disparaging the sellers.  I think its awesome that they sell here.  I just don't get the buying part.

It's like being a fish or a spider and waiting for your catch to come floating downstream or into your web.

Are you guys all retired or something ?

Patience is the key.

So it's true .......   buyers choose to spend their time waiting there, as opposed to doing something else with it  hm

I see the problem, Mike.  Get rid of that hour glass.  :baiting:

Seriously, I see books here I want on a daily basis.   I rely on self control to keep me from not buying.

I am retired but I don't think it matters. I think most of the quick trigger buyers have alerts set, not only here but on many different websites. MY only advantage is I often like titles and genres that are not currently 'hot'. I am usually only able to purchase after many have seen and passed.

I typically use eBay for books I want ASAP, or are generally more readily available. Or on bigger purchases because I’m a sucker for eBay bucks.

With the boards I’ll echo what others have mentioned, the books come to me. I expand my tastes a lot with the sales forums. Also a great way fill in run gaps.

The personal touch a lot of the sales threads have make buying on here better than any other online platform.

As someone who's found this board to be an amazing resource to fill holes in runs and buy books I'd always wanted (and those I didn't know I wanted until I saw them here in a sales thread), it comes down to just fortunate timing for me.

I work a casino job, meaning a lot of 4 day work weeks instead of 5, a lot of free time when threads are being run, and a lot of breaks at work to check on books even when I'm not at home to do so.

When I see something I need or want (or a thread in which there's a seller I've bought from before), I'll keep up with while it unfolds if possible, multi-tasking on either my phone or laptop while doing work around the house or whatever I might be doing (I'm watching a sales thread iand typing this in my phone even as I'm watching the Thanksgiving games and visiting with family, lol).

Even so, I still miss things all the time. Saves my pocketbook the hit, though. lol

I agree with everything offered this far as good reasons, plus I feel like, by and large, the reliability/quality of the sellers is very high. And you see stuff offered here, at more reasonable prices generally, that is difficult to find everywhere else.

Some of the sales threads are like museums! Also, once you know what each seller tends toward, it's a little easier to decide whether a new thread is apt to offer something you might be looking for. (Eg - If you like GGA, wait for a Rick thread, if like books worth as much as cars, check out Ltpink, etc...)

The box of chocolates allure of ya never know who will be popping up a new thread and what they will put in it is part of the allure. Then again, I guess it's an allure if you share the selling mindset espoused by those of us who have replied. Anyway, that's my 2 cents on it.

Off to dinner! Happy Thanksgiving!

I would take your luck over any other method :p

As a collector, I have learned to let the books come to me. So, I don't seek the books out, I buy when I see something I want. The fun is in the hunt, no hurry.

I'm getting there.

I still enjoy the chase though.

I thought "seeking the books out" ...... was the hunt
