I think these three might be my favorites for 2017, but there were certainly a few other contenders.

First, a Timely that I was happy to upgrade.

Next, I love the color palette and detail on this one.  Reminds me of a Japanese woodblock print.

My third choice is this Speed.  It represents a historic time in WWII when the USA and the Soviet Union were closing in on the German capital.  I saw this in an old CBM years ago and am excited to add it to my collection.

Don't give in to that sort of thinking!!

It's simple (if sobering) reality that fandom here assembled represents what appears to be a very wide range of budgets. I am as floored as the next boardie by the keys and bigger keys and higher-grade keys and so forth, but on some level, I really appreciate the stuff that the box-divers cull together on a more limited budget. Trust me: if I woke up tomorrow with the winning powerball ticket, darn straight you'd see me holding a mid- to high-grade Marvel Comics 1, Cap 1 and Whiz 1 by this time next year, but it's the under-the-radar stuff that really makes me feel over and over again that this is one cool hobby.

Remember the old adage that it's the $2 window at the racetrack that keeps it going.

That having been pontificated upon to too fine a point, my three favorites on the year would probably all hail from this small group of books I bought from a friend, as this was a very modest year for me in comics. I'm going with the Buccaneers and Strange Suspense Stories in the top row and the Two-Fisted Tales in the second row.

Well said Pop! It’s not too hard to write that big check (if you are fortunate to be able to do so). To me it is a lot more rewarding to scrounge, dig and sometimes just get lucky. I too love that Two Fisted 30. My favorite Jack Davis cover. The eyes are just awesome.

What a great trio! The Speed is so tough. I was so lucky to pick up a decent copy many years ago when hardly anybody collected them.

You almost never see this book for sale, very nice score. Interestingly, in early 1943, the Americans had yet to put forces in occupied Europe, and the Soviets were just beginning to push the German's out of Russia, so this cover is two years early in it's envisioning the future, when American and Soviet forces were rushing against each other to gain control of Berlin.

I picked up a bunch of great Cole covers and PCH books this year but I think my first 3 Ace books are my favorites.

Best evidence yet that I need an "Ace" or two up my sleeve. Those are mighty fine books!!! And Berk to boot! (thumbsu

OK, by 'popular demand' lol - here are three books I got this year that I smile at every time I look at them. I've really got the Australian comic bug in the past 18 months, and these three are books I suspect not too many people own. If you'd told me in January that a romance comic with Audrey Hepburn on the cover would be one of my favourites of the year I'd have told you you're dreaming!

Totally cool books. Awesome that you posted them. I'm 99.9% sure I would've never seen them otherwise. The Crime Casebook reminds me of the detective mags of the 40's and 50's much more so than an American comic book of the same period. (And that Jo-Jo is over-the-top cool and presents so very well.)

Can't compete with the heavy hitters here, but it's cool to see what it is everyone on these boards is into and came up with this year so I'll jump in.

Grail is right! I'm terribly sorry to disagree with your opening, but I consider this a "heavy-hitter" book. Congrats. :golfclap:

Good call and a great pick-up. It totally borrows from the Japanese tradition of woodcuts, and Berk provenance to boot.  (thumbsu

This is fascinating in its prescience.   At the start of 1943 Germany was still deep in Russia and had not met total defeat in Africa yet.  Really cool cover that I had never noticed before.:applause:

Wow, some really great books by so many folks this year.

Not necessarily the most expensive books this year but my three are below. Had an Okajima but was lucky to upgrade to this one thanks to a Andy  and a Hitler cover from Ed. Was able to really expand my Hitler/WWII cover collection this year with so many coming to the market. Grabbed a Victory #1 that is on it's way to CGC so no pic currently.
