We'll never know (About FF 50). Everyone there at the time is gone I believe. Most likely that's just the way Jack did that one. According to this page no art from 48, 49, or 50 has surfaced. https://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/dynamics/2011/03/17/ff-48-splash-or-a-forgery/

48 cover has definitely grown on me.  I still think 49 is the best cover of the trilogy (and my favorite Surfer cover after 72).

But 48 is an epic/iconic cover.  As others have said, Kirby nailed it.  The look of impending doom on the FF & the Watcher is there.  You can feel it.  It’s a classic, even if the Surfet isn’t on it.

I'm new to the CGC forums and thought this would be as good a thread to post my first comment as any. 

48, 49 and 50 were the first comics I collected.  Don't get me wrong, as a kid I bought, read and abused hundreds of comics,  but these were my first as a collector.  

The Galactus / SS story was the most impactful to my father as a child and he would tell the story to my brother and I. As a high school student in the late 90s I bought FF 48 at a convention for $55.  I had it graded a few years ago and it came back at 5.5.  Conventions in the early internet days were a much different scene. 

I bought 49 and 50 a few years later and when we bought our first house, 49 proudly displayed in our living room along with as handful of other keys. 

As for Kirby covers I've always thought  72 was the best, but 49 will always be my favorite.

Would anyone happen to know about a version that has a green Marvel 4 box in the corner? Also Galactus has a gold chain, and a blue robe that differs?

Thanks. I waited for it. In my collection the comics from 1966-67 are all at least 7.0's but with these three I had to make an exception.
