BLACK WIDOW moving forward

Marvel Studios is moving forward with a Black Widow standalone film. The studio has hired Jac Schaeffer to pen the -script and Scarlett Johansson will star. This is does not mean the movie has a green light, but this is the first time a writer for the ever-developing project has been named.

Marvel Studios executives, including studio president Kevin Feige, first met with Johansson to figure out what everyone wanted from a Black Widow writer. Feige then met with several writers before deciding on Schaeffer.

Schaeffer is an up and coming writer with plenty of momentum in her own right. She got Hollywood’s attention with her Black List -script, The Shower. She’s also writing the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake, Nasty Women, starring Anne Hathaway. Schaeffer also penned the Olaf’s Frozen Adventure short for Disney.

This is huge news. Feige and Johansson have talked about a Black Widow movie forever, but it’s never gone past “we’d love to make one.” This is the first major momentum the film has enjoyed, so hopefully Schaeffer is able to crack the story and turn in a -script that Marvel will soon turn into a go film.

This may turn out to be the female-led production MCU actresses asked for recently.

This photo is especially telling when you remember that earlier this year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said he was approached by most of the women from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who asked him when they’d get their own team-up movie.

Now there is this news.

BLACK WIDOW Scribe Jac Schaeffer Meeting With Scarlett Johansson Soon But Is It Actually A Female-Led Team-Up?

Quote

Talk of a Black Widow movie has persisted for years but Marvel Studios is finally getting serious about it by hiring a screenwriter in the form of Jac Shaeffer. While it's still very early days for the project, Variety reporter Justin Kroll has now reveal that she will be meeting with actress Scarlett Johansson in the coming weeks to discuss the movie and the direction it's ultimately going to end up heading in.

However, speculation is running rampant online that this isn't actually a Black Widow movie; instead, it's going to be the all-female led team-up adventure that Johansson and a number of other Marvel Cinematic Universe stars pitched to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige while Avengers: Infinity War was shooting. Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Tessa Thompson, and more were said to be among that group.

Sure hope not.

Black Widow & Hawkeye has been my prediction for Phase 4 for a long time, and I hope that's what they go with.

Having the Hawkeye & Winter Soldier book come out under Tales of Suspense felt like a non-coincidence.  Winter Soldier would fit right in with a Black Widow story, set in the present or the past.

Sure as heck don't need Wakandans, Valkyries, or Guadians in a Black Widow film.

The writer is pretty green, but at least she's a rising star which suits Marvel's M.O.  MCU needs to keep going with the best people and meritocracy, not virtue signalling.  If they go Female Director and Producer, just because MUH Female Lead Character, they sure as heck better be darn-talented and not just hacks like what happened with so many of the print comics.

EXCLUSIVE: Scarlett Johansson set to become highest paid actress banking $25million in Marvel's Black Widow movie

Quote

Scarlett Johansson is set to become the highest paid actress in Hollywood by raking in $25 million to star in her own Black Widow movie, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

Superstar Scarlett, 33, has signed up to return as Natasha Romanoff for a one-off superhero film, expected to hit theaters in 2020.

Marvel and Disney have agreed to the $25 million deal which will make the mother-of-one Hollywood's highest paid actress for a single movie.

It is understood Scarlett's agents are also negotiating for her to get a producer's credit on the Walt Disney Pictures production.

Insiders say that should the movie - based on the comic book heroine - generate more than $900 million, the star will also get an estimated $6 million bonus check.

I am glad to see they are moving forward on this, but MCU is about 5 years too late on the BW film. A solo flick after WS delving into her past would have been better timing. Now it seems like they are just playing catch up with Sony re: a female character team-up flick.......

I've thought that very same thing!

The Winter Soldier was such an incredible film, they could have kept that espionage atmosphere moving forward by delving into her past, along with maybe more details what other famous hits Bucky had been involved in that were still to be revealed.

Yup. They missed the boat on that one. Now that it sounds like WW will be a Cold War espionage flick that will hit theatres first, they may need to take a different approach to the storyline. Too bad as that is the solo BW film that most fans would want.
