Agreed on the LB Cole front.  That 9.8 book is off the grid.

This auction also showcases 5-6 copies of FF 1, so we'll get a handle on how much Disney/Marvel movie speculation will fuel prices across the grading spectrum.  So far, they look pretty strong.

Wondering who was bidding on the Doctor Solars tonight.

The headliner was the # 5 in CGC 9.4 -- went for $2,350. It's (by far) the hardest issue of the entire run to find in grade, but I was estimating around $1400-$1500.

But the other ones generally went for ~$480 per -- for the 9.6s that's more than 50% over GPA.

Here's hoping our own Rosland was able to score the # 5 and # 20 -- which would have been upgrades to his already-insane set.

I thought with the bids I put in I was going to do really well on the Doctor Solar and Magnus high grade issues.  I expected to win them far below what I bid and struck out.

Solar 3 CGC 9.4 Won for $165.00.....The one issue I did not bid on as I bought it off eBay for $250 last week facepalm
Solar 4 CGC 9.4 Won for $430.00.....I was the underbidder $405.00
Solar 5 CGC 9.4 Won for $2,350.00 :o:o:o …. I "only" bid $828.00 This seems crazy high even if it is his first costume
Solar 7 CGC 9.6 Won for $480.00.....I was the underbidder $455.00
Solar 10 CGC 9.6 Won for $480.00.....I was the underbidder $455.00
Solar 14 CGC 9.8 Won for $480.00.....I was the underbidder $455.00
Solar 18 CGC 9.8 Won for $480.00.....I was the underbidder $455.00
Solar 20 CGC 9.8 Won for $605.00. ….Price surprised me as I bid $455.00

Magnus 2 CGC 9.6 Won for $1,000.00...I bid $625.00
Magnus 4 CGC 9.4 Won for $983.00.... bid $625.00

I was left the CGC 9.0 to CGC 9.2 and won Magnus 1 CGC 9.0 and Magnus 2 CGC 9.2 as well as Turok 1 (FC 596) CGC 9.0  I am curios as to the GPA prices on the books I won as my subscription had lapsed and didn't have time to renew before I bid.

I was chasing the 9.8 Fantastic Four 119. There was a 9.6 sale in July for $166. I bid five times that and then added a hundred bucks.  I figured I was good to go.

Book closed at $1,505. Yikes upon yikes. That, coupled with the $2,600 sale for the 120 in a previous Comiclink auction, gives me some serious pause about getting this white whale run done.

Underbidder alert: there's a run of 17 high grade Doctor Solar's ending at auction tomorrow night on ComicConnect, including multiple top census and pedigree copies.

As for the apparently astounding price on the Solar #5 - it's the first and only 9.4 example, and on these 1 of 1 top census copies the sky is sometimes the limit.

Cool comic and a tough, tough issue, great pickup.

Yes I am quite happy to finally get a high grade copy of Magnus 1.  To get that and the Turok in the same auction makes me a happy camper today.

I was actually expecting the Turok to go for more than the Magnus. I thought prices would be swapped given the age and rarity of the two books.

People don't like Turok nearly as much as Magnus.

Also - you did well with the Magnus books. # 3 and # 4 are the toughest of the early run (hence the seemingly high price on the # 4).

But of all those Gold Key hero books, Doctor Solar # 5 in 9.4 was the white whale last night.

For years there were only two CGC 9.0 (highest graded) copies on the census, and they belonged to the top two census registry holders. After several submissions, I finally landed a CGC 9.2 back from CGC. Thought I might have an outside shot at the 9.4 copy at around $900. I was...wrong.

I noticed that too - everything went way beyond what I was willing to bid.

But then again, I'm a cheap-@zz.
