This cover is horrible, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar!

Kirby, Trimpe, Severin, Buscema maintained a solid look for the Hulk through to the 1980s.

Trimpe? :roflmao:He's probably the worst Hulk artist ever

He's been inconsistently drawn ever since.

Dale Keown and Gary Frank prove that statement incorrect.

X-Men Gold #1 Hip Hop variant by caricature artist Andre LeRoy Davis is based on this Grandmaster Flash LP.

(On his website, Davis cites Mort Drucker of Mad Magazine as an influence)

That's just embarassing. It is inspiring in it's own way, tho. Little kids see that and think "wow, I can draw better than that!" and a future artist is born.

Thanks for posting that, I was going to, but never got around to it. While it's not a style I personally dig, and I understand it may be jarring to the average collector of mainstream superhero art, he definitely has a lot of fans, so I'm sure this appealed to somebody. It's all about context.

Wonder Man #26. Dreadful cover.

No background, yet debris is flying everywhere. And what's with the Hulk's face? Looks like he belongs in the Smoky Mountain Wrestling circuit.

Hulk looks like Ralph Cramden from the Honeymooners

Cheating a bit with this one, I know, as it's an interior cover - a frontpiece! By none other than Mike Zeck, vintage too from 1978!

Cheat all you like Mr W. This thread is a free for all (thumbsu

Now, where can I get the number of the Hulks dentist?

Hello.

Whilst perusing price variant finesse, I was reminded of how totally unsatisfactory, nay compositionally hideous, this rotten Spidey cover from Byrne (every copy please) is:

 5a5cbf8ae7860_SimpsonsShock.gif.04dc2f904c3e799ac022bd8b84473099.gif

Let's take a closer look (Yes, I know....)

Firstly, Byrne achieves what should be technically impossible - making MJ look like a horse faced ugly dragon woman:

5a5cbf60b0e66_v2132.49(2).jpg.6c69f04c51655371d8f97207fea9341c.jpg 5a5cbf8a291bc_ShockedHomer.jpg.0ec9cbe1bcc6a847b14ff374bf79624f.jpg

Next, we have a bizarre podgy left leg extending, so it seems, from Spidey's left arse-cheek:

5a5cbf616a577_v2132.49(3).jpg.d59f4c777bb7604e51dde72bc30c6bce.jpg 5a5cbf8a291bc_ShockedHomer.jpg.0ec9cbe1bcc6a847b14ff374bf79624f.jpg

Ouch!

Next, we have a ridiculously unnecessary 'person in the background' disturbing the visual flow of MJ and, bizarrely, they're the best drawn thing on the cover:

5a5cbf62c51de_v2132.49(4).jpg.a4f4a6b6a95197b71f1a96c702034e83.jpg 5a5cbf8a291bc_ShockedHomer.jpg.0ec9cbe1bcc6a847b14ff374bf79624f.jpg

Especially silly given the lack of detail elsewhere on the cover (note the laziest webbing you've ever seen cutting through the void. Hardly McFarlane is it:

5a5cbf64abf26_v2132.49(5).jpg.f110bd2bfed293a175cd58b3f812a119.jpg 5a5cbf8a291bc_ShockedHomer.jpg.0ec9cbe1bcc6a847b14ff374bf79624f.jpg

Back on MJ, ahem, the only possibly titivating piece on the cover - a nice shot of thigh - is obscured by inane wording:

5a5cbf62c51de_v2132.49(4).jpg.a4f4a6b6a95197b71f1a96c702034e83.jpg 5a5cbf8a291bc_ShockedHomer.jpg.0ec9cbe1bcc6a847b14ff374bf79624f.jpg

Get out the way!

And Spidey is frowning, as usual, probably because his oversized head has no neck and extends from his chest, which can only hurt (my eyes):

Look, he can't even sign his flippin signature in a way that's identifiable:

What a horrible cover!

What is he, 3 years old? I say Burn 'baby' Byrne!

Your turn :)

Coming up to a year on, I just wanted to say that ASM 13 is still the worst ASM cover.

Ever:sumo:

Incorrect. Humberto Ramos has drawn the worst ASM cover ever. Take your pick.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentleman, you join us here at 'What's the worst ASM cover ever' at a crucial point. Someone is challenging the supremacy of the Byrne 13, I repeat, challenging the Byrne Supremacy (heh heh). It's caused quite a stir and we're not yet sure how things will develop. Stay with us and we promise to keep you up to date with all and any developments. In the meantime, this commercial break:"
