This cover is horrible, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar!

Mary Jane looks like John Lennon, Spidey's left hand has an awkward 3 fingers, but it's not all thumbs as I believe the attendant lady is the best drawn, even though it seems she could have retired by now with benefits and curled up with a good book :)

I'm a huge Byrne fan, but I'll admit that's not one of his best.

Some British understatement for you there.

I love that your point of reference is Todd McFarlane lol

IMHO it renders any critique moot.

The detail in his webbing was incredible.

She does, yes....

Don’t take this as a defense of the cover you so expertly (and rightly) skewered, but don’t all left legs extend from one’s left, um, posterior?

hm

You're right of course. I knew I should've gone down the "he's carrying a colostomy bag" route instead.

No it doesn't. I can't stand McFarlane. But his webbing was outrageously intricate.

See, I told you.

I agree, not exactly Byrnes' best effort. Byrne was best when Terry Austin inked his pencils.

Doesn't Mary Jane look like BWS drew her?

Yes. Blindfolded.

Byrne pencils with Tom Palmer inks was a nice combination as well.

Dan Green did a good job on the Iron Fist 14 and 15 issues.  While not as magnificent as Austin on close inspection, I always held those issues as being in the same ballpark of quality as the Uncanny run from 108-143.  The MTU 53 seemed light years away by comparison.  I remember snagging a copy of that as a young teen and being dissappointed as it didn't match my expectations of what it would be.

I might’ve enjoyed his work if all he drew was pages and pages of webbing.

He did, didn't he?
