I didn't see Solo (nor did a fair amount of people my age that I know see it) because most of us agreed that Episode VII was mediocre, and Episode VIII was garbage. After seeing Episode VIII I made a conscious decision to not see anymore Star Wars movies, not Solo, not Episode IX this December, none of them. I'm not the only one I know that thought like that. I agree with everything you said, most people feel this way. It had nothing to do with Ford not being in the movie, it was people departing the SW franchise due to the new trilogy! If Hyperspace worked like that all they would have had to do is put a R2 unit in an x-wing and the Star Destroyer in Episode IV would have been done for.
