ASM 300 Edge. What is this? 0

Was inspecting this book that was part of a recent collection purchase. As wondering if this is a production defect or poor attempt at trimming

It should. I know I would not want to buy a high grade slab and see this.

Its considered a defect and does not discount from the grade but as @Bomber-Bob states above it might as well because not many would want a copy with the defect.  About 1.5 years ago I loaded up on copies of ASM #300 and while searching for copies I ran into those all the time so I think its quite prevalent within the distribution.

About 7 years ago, I found 7 copies of ASM #300 at the antique store in Ohio. 6 out 7 got 9.8's. Two of them have Marvel clipping and are 9.8. Ironically, a 9.6 copy has a perfect straight edge. Weird.
