Wait, Suicide Squad made more money than JUSTICE LEAGUE? Ouch, DC...ouch...

i was talking WW, DP $252MM is the low bar this flop may not even hurdle.

Yeah - but domestically, they're no longer close. Dark Phoenix finished its run <$66 million domestically.

Birds of Prey is already past $61 million, and is likely to finish around $90-$95 million domestically.

So with BOP still pending with the Japan box office (March 2020), it will be interesting to see what it can achieve there. Little Joker delivered the second highest result for a modern DC or Marvel film with Japan, only behind Endgame.

there's no chance it's profitable at $180MM.

Why ‘Birds of Prey’ Whiffed at the Box Office

https://variety.com/2020/film/box-office/birds-of-prey-box-office-disappoints-1203498018/

“Birds of Prey” cost a reported $82 million to produce, with executives at rival studios putting that number as closer to $100 million (due to elaborate sets and CGI), and estimating the film needs to make around $100 million domestically and $300 million globally to break even. Sources close to the production say the breakeven number is closer to $250 million. Hitting those marks could prove difficult overseas, since fears of coronavirus have impacted moviegoing in Asia. However, its R-rating meant the film wasn’t going to open in China in the first place."

This is where your ignorance shines out. If you saw the actual film, it would be clear there was no elaborate sets and CGI. Other than using an old warehouse as a fight focus, and Bruce the Hyena as a pet.

Here's one of the 'big expenses' of Birds of Prey.

Margot Robbie breaks down the hyena scenes in Birds of Prey

Harley Quinn is well-known for her two pet hyenas – typically named Bud and Lou – but how do you pull that off in live-action? Hyenas are notoriously vicious creatures, so working with them on set would not be a joy. Luckily Margot Robbie still wanted to use the hyenas in some fashion, they just had to get creative.

“We went to go see a real-live hyena,” Robbie told ComicBook.com in a recent interview. “There’s a hyena in California that’s appeared on-screen before. It turns out it was going to be impossible to shoot with him because they’re extremely dangerous and take ownership of anything they touch. So, if you put him on a couch, he’s gonna eat the couch. You can’t get the couch back. Doesn’t really work for filming.”

Ultimately, we had a really big dog. Its fur was CGI,” she said. “Because the alternative is to have a dude in a green suit. That’s often weird.” “I’ve seen that process play out when we did Tarzan. I remember watching Alexander Skarsgård nuzzle with some big, burly dude from South London. And I was just like, ‘it’s weird’,” she added with a laugh.

“So, I shared a Twizzler with a big dog instead,” said Robbie.

:roflmao:

Hate makes for some crazy posts. If only folks would just take the time to enjoy what you like, without dancing around to detract from other productions you have no interest in (other than talk them down).
