Action Comics 242 CGC 8.0 White Pages!

A true 8.0 or better Action #242 is definitely rare, and 7.0s like this are tough to find as well. That being said, it would bug me to look at a 7.0 in an 8.0.

FWIW, I have a similar situation with my current Batman #181 CGC 9.0. I bought it as a beautiful 7.5 in an auction lot to send in for grading (the lot yielded 9.0 copies of #171 and #189 as well), and that is what it still is in my eyes. The label is an issue, though, so I just keep it tucked away in a box of slabs and hidden from my sight. lol

Here’s scans of the book and a couple of other CGC 8.0’s to compare.

Without the books in hand it’s not really possible to judge the degrees of colour deepness since scans can and often lie but the 8.0 with white pages looks pretty rich in colour if it’s scan is true. I’d have no problem having that top one in my collection as an 8.0 if it looks exactly like that scan. It’s pretty.

To compare still here’s another CGC 8.0 Action but with colours that make the spine defects (and others) less apparent. They’re there if you look closely but if this was a black or dark background I have a feeling someone might call foul on its grade too simply because they become much more noticeable.

The scan on the Clink 8.0 looks like it is set to show more color and gloss than the other two. Those were taken on standard setting.

FWIW, how about comparing these two, even though the scanner settings are much different.

K, corner blunting can cost a book a grade or two. You can see the differences in all 4 corners.  With equal scan settings, I think the purples would be brighter in the 8.0 (I may be wrong). I can just feel the freshness in the 8.0...4 nice corners, white pages, etc. Were it not for the spine creases this book could be a 9.0/9.2. Both are nice rare books.

You simply can't accurately compare scans from different scanners. Each model of scanner will represent a book differently.
