Kudos to CGC and grading time turnaround!

49 posts in this topic

Recent posts have said that CGC's turnaround time has gotten longer. Some say it has improved. I would just like to thank CGC first off for this recent grading done for me and contribute the story for your discussion.

I created an invoice for 32 Modern books to be graded as is. No prescreen. This was on 8/11/2002.

By the time I packed it up with other books for prescreening...I sent it out on 8/14/2002.

It arrive in Sarasota, FL on 8/16/2002 acc to usps delivery confirmation number # 03010120000676282402.

It was cataloged/entered into vault by CGC staff on 8/19/2002

I was charged a grand total of $440.30 on 8/19/2002 as well.

The books were graded by and shipped out via USPS registered mail 9/23/2002

It arrived at my post office on Thursday 8/26/2002 and I just picked it up this morning Sat 8/28!

That is 24 business days from date billed to date sent out from CGC.

Thanks again, CGC. Great Job!

Darth, perhaps you should send some books in via the economy route and see how happy you are with their turnaround time. However, I must admit, they appear to be catching up with their posted estimates and I do like the fact that they are updating their turnaround times more frequently! smile.gif

The proceeds of these future eBay sales are going to the new Baby Darthmobile we just got today. A nice SUV, intended for preserving the safety of BabyDarth! Not as exciting as Ricky's Rice Rocket or murph0's hot rod...but practical. My wife is very thrilled and therefore, so am I smile.gif

CI, I'm still working on your Defenders....fortunately you and chromium PM'd me for different issues. And I'm not going to rip you a new hole in your pocket for these. Donut sold me his share at very fair prices and I believe in a kind turn as well. I have another source that I must tap into, but don't know how prices will be.

Yeh, go right ahead and send something in Economy..don't expect to see the book for another 6 months though..

I must say I'm very unhappy so far..between not getting any confirmation and now having to wait at least 4 months..

This is weird. I was literally just gonna post "hmmm - maybe a new car is the the offering after you sell that lot!"

Nice!

(Yes, I can appreciate modernish stuff)

Thanks pov... yes, I'll enjoy posting these Moderns out there all in due time. Must have something go to the car payment now.

Usually I post these aucitons @ 9.99 start, the less popular ones at 19.99 start and the economy/standard ones at $24.99 start, no reserve and a crazy BIN, in my opinion. If someone bites then someone bites and we're all happy. If it goes the regular way, I'm just as happy. I wonder if I should change my listing style (in re: to reserves and start bids) and initial pricing?

Darth, I'm very happy for your quick turnaround time.

My experience is not so good in comparison. I dropped off 36 moderns at the CGC table on 8/1/02.

I have yet to receive them.

How can you receive books before me when mailing them two weeks after...? Me thinks a bit of favoritism may be in order. Time to give CGC a li'l ring-ting-aling come Monday.

But hey, congrats again on YOUR speedy service. tongue.gif

Thanks again. I just wanted to put this out there so people know that CGC CAN come through. Don't know if it's anything more than that. What if your invoice was not filled out as correctly and completely as possible? Dates and titles according to the indicia (I have the CGC census online open on one browser window, the invoice on another open window, and cut paste the titles and dates from there when submitting)? Insured value accurate to fair market value or guide (using Wizard for Moderns and Overstreet for Bronze and prior is my rule of thumb)? Just some timesaving tips... I'm by no means their biggest customer in volume or price so I don't think they would treat me better than anyone else that pays for their service.

All are at a discount (10% - 25%) due to the volume that I purchase weekly, or had preordered with the Diamond monthly order.

If you are trying to figure whether I break even or not, at this point I'm on the loss side because of all the ones I purchase on eBay or get graded and keep. But why this line of questioning or better yet, what are you getting at?

If I may intercede gentlemen...

My response above was pretty much tongue-in-cheek; I'ts great your subs were handled quickly. As for me, I submitted express, economy & modern all at the same time with the same info etc. The express books were a bit longer than expected, but no big whoop (that was the batch with the 8.0 shocked.gif Green Lantern #40). So since they arrived with no complications...any delay can not be attributed to moi.

Sidebar: what do you guys (and gals) think the time delay from shipping to census report is? 3 of my moderns that were supposedly shipped on the 19th are not yet recorded in the census. How do I know this? Because none have yet been documented in the census. It's now been 7 working days. I thought the census was up to speed. Comments?

Yes, that is the case. The last update was August 23rd so hopefully, we should be seeing a new one soon! Unfortunately, there does not seem to a set time frame for them to update. frown.gif

That's a pretty bizarre way to equate things, especially after your previous statements of them helping pay for a house, car, etc.

That's beside the point, but let's say I sent in a stack of USM #1 White Variants and got back a 10.0, a few 9.9's the rest at 9.8. If I decided to "keep them" for now, would you really believe that I was somehow on the "loss side"?
