Im actually shocked to see how much buzz is going around over this movie, was just at my LCS and thats all they were talking about there too!

Tons of copies on the bay, but tons of movement as well!

Which is kinda silly when you think about it - There are so many more interesting Lobo covers and books . . . who cares about a measly first app? (Not me) :sumo:

Biz is such a cool dude. He can be a bit tough to understand depending on his level of toxicity, but I can't think of another creator who is more like the character they're most associated with.

Simon is the only comic pro I ever left a con to go buy beers for. He repaid the favor many times over.

What kind of beer does he drink?

I remember it was Guinness, but not sure if it was regular or one of their specials.

The convenient store at the Riviera Casino had them.

Nice - I had a nice local brewed Milk Stout last night.  Stouts are were it is at.

Right, the original Lobo character seems like DC's version of a KISS-inspired character, which wasn't popular... until KISS wasn't.

Moving through the decades it's kind of funny that Lobo (which seems like it was inspired by KISS) looks more like Rob Zombie (who seems like he was inspired by Lobo).

That might be a product of Daniel Brereton having done covers for both Lobo comics and Rob Zombie albums.

Unless Im missing a joke here, Ive never heard or thought of any correlation between GS and Lobo. Kiss were HUGE in the 70s-early 80s. Lobo really wasnt anything until 1990 when the Bisley series hit. Some will even go as far as saying that he wouldnt be who he is in the 90s without the Biz

I don't agree with that. I speculated heavily (or what passed for heavily for a teenager with limited cash) on Lobo #1, expecting demand because of what Giffen and Grant had done in Justice League and L.E.G.I.O.N. I'd say perhaps that the mini series pushed him to the next level, but I imagine the mini was published because there was demand for more books with the character. If a Lobo movie does well, I think the pre-Lobo mini issues of those two titles with Lobo may do well.

It's too bad that Jason Momoa is playing Aquaman; he'd be perfect for Lobo, visually.

Omega men 3 had its 1st price hike when the Lobo mini took off with issue 1. That cover was crazy. The art was crazy. Bisley came out of nowhere  (to mainstream comics) and championed that cover.

Of course Lobo had his new look prior to that book but that's not what made him take off the way he did. And I LOVED that dematis/McGuire run more than life back than.

But the point we're trying to make is that there's a whole click of Bisley+Lobo fans that are on a league of their own (no pun intended) and that would be a great miss if the movie doesn't cater to them

Fair enough. The mini may have been the point where people were thinking this is the next Wolverine (ironic, since Lobo was largely a satirical take on "grim and gritty" comics which gained popularity in the late '80s), which would create a spike for a first appearance.

And of course it makes sense to feature in a movie the version of the character that was the most popular.

Slightly off topic...if anyone has a 9.8 Lobo Paramilitary Xmas Special for sale, I'm potentially interested.  I love that book.

That is by far the quintessential Lobo story, IMO.

I always pick these up for a buck when I find them - to pass on to other comic readers.

If I had to pick one book that would deserve emulation in order to guarantee a successful movie - this is it. I do recall the Superman Adventures cartoon version as a hoot, also.
