Haha yes, in this very narrow context I most certainly am.  We are only talking about "favorite cover" so that would seem appropriate, right?  :)

I'm just saying that sometimes the fact that a cover features a first appearance influences the perception of how good the cover is.

Hmm, I definitely see what you mean about FF #72.  First of all it's Kirby in all his splendor, complete with krackle, and second it focuses 100% on the Surfer.  Third, I am crazy about monochrome covers.

Thor is my favorite character of all, so I think that could be influencing my thoughts on this.  :)

True, some are unable to discern what is great on its own merits from what is often seen because of what it covers.
