I was going to bid on some original art from Alien Worlds #9 by Mike Hoffman, but forgot to sign in to the auction that night :(   Guess I will save my funds for another purchase

I cannot believe I did not see these. They went so cheap.

Whoever is fighting over the WSF29 Gaines Copy apparently didn't realize Metro had it listed for sale for a long time before this auction, and could have had it significantly cheaper.

Cap 3 CGC 6.5 approaching $50K :whatthe::whatthe::whatthe:

I know the clink CGC 1.8 with notes went for $16K, but still impressive.

Anyone know what the 7.0 in Hakes just went for?

I'm amazed at what a huge gap has opened between Cap 2 and Cap 3.

Seems high to me.  I think we've seen a number of lower-grade copies come to market recently and prices have softened in that range.  But this was a very nice looking book whose grade was brought down by a detached cover.  So, at least two people went after it aggressively.

Actually the contrary. i know you wanted a deal under guide but a 4.0 brittle page sold for  25k and this same copy sold for 33k in 2015.

3.0 have sold over 30k

Now is a good time to buy since alot have hit the market at the same time

I think it was the strength of this copy relative to its grade that explains the price.  For instance, it looks like 3.0s have been trending down.  The rising prices of a couple of years ago have brought several lower grade copies to market.  We'll see where the market eventually settles.

Now we can put to rest hopefully the PQ debate with this auction. The Tec 31 CGC 1.0 with supple pages has a huge lead over the 2.0 copy with brittle pages. Not only that, but I think the 2.0 has a much superior eye appeal. Why does the 1.0 have a higher bid... PQ.

Let's see where they finish... the 2.0 is going to move quite a bit higher I imagine

Do any of you more knowledgeable posters have thoughts on the Tec 36?

I am particularly interested in whether the grade looks generous, and if it has been shopped around.  Please feel free to PM me.  Thanks in advance.

Auctioned off 2015

Grade looks deserved imo.

Like the board name

What did they go for?  They were very little money a few days before auction end.  Alien Worlds was one of my favorite titles when I was a kid, so owning some of the original artwork from  one of them would have been great.  That particular story too was cool, I remember reading it.

They went for about $100/pp.

I would have bought them all in a heartbeat for that. Twisted Tales and Alien Worlds were basically my childhood. (+ Simonson Thor, but that ain't happening.)

Hey I love Twisted Tales and Alien Worlds. They are the only books I own more recent than Golden Age!

I am not as Cap 3 has gone for significantly more money than Cap 2 in equivalent condition for quite a few years now.

I am just surprised that Overstreet has STILL not gotten around to reflecting this obvious price disparity in his guide yet after all of these years.

Ok, maybe NOT that surprised since it's just old slow Bob meandering along at his own pace.  lol
