That would have been indeed interesting.  I'd forgotten about him.  He left Hollywood in the late 20s to return to Germany due in part to his difficulty with English.

He was almost 6'3" so that might have been problematic too.

Conrad Veidt's role in "The Man who laughs" was the inspiration for DC comics Joker created by Jerry Robinson and the make-up was by Jack Pierce.

Maybe you were not aware of this but there were two movies made called The Bat 1926 and The Bat whispers 1930 that were the inspiration towards DC's The Batman. These movies were both directed by Roland West (WEST?) and featured a man dressed as a bat and the first bat signal.:)

Staying on The Batman theme the first incarnation of Clayface had the alias of Basil Karlo which was a play on the names of Basil Rathbone and Boris Karloff and he was an horror movie star driven mad because his best known role was given to someone else. Chaney's opera Phantom also inspired the creation of the character:)

I found that info fascinating. It has got me interested in trying to watch those two movies this year. I found that they are both on youtube and plan to watch them on a rainy day.

With being a lifelong horror sci-fi comic fan you pick up a lot of trivia along the way.:) I also have a fondest for Victorian and Edwardian ghost stories with my favourite being M.R.James. Who could forget his Casting of the runes later made into the  "Curse of the demon 1957."

Mr  creepy Television himself Rod Serling left a lot of hearts fluttering but not n a good way.:) His scripts were magnificent and were full of social commentary, it's no wonder that he is so well remembered to this day. He also hosted Night gallery which was much in the same vein only more horror orientated.
