Letter pages in comics, where did they go? 0

I originally started reading comics in the mid 90’s and got back into them over the last year. The biggest difference I’ve noticed is that most comics don’t have a letters page anymore, especially DC. 

Does anyone know the reason for this?

Some marvel and image books do have them. I personally like it when they are there.

Lazarus has one of the best letters page out there. Marvel and DC cut them to reduce costs and because no one writes a letter but mostly for costs.

MAD Magazine still has a couple of pages of them. Some quite funny. Too bad the mag has gone down hill so much.

Walking dead has a letter page every issue

 It usually consists of at least 2 pages.

I think letter pages were more prevalent when people actually read the comics.

"Dear Marvel Crew-- I really enjoyed issue XXX of Spiderman.  The way that variant cover by Dell 'Otto pops off the shelf was awesome.  I had to have it.  It will look great in my 9.8 CGC case, where I can check it everyday, and monitor the sales on ebay.  Sorry, I didn't open it and check the artist inside, or the writing, or the plot.  But I am sure it was swell.  Well....until Dell 'Otto goes to work 9-5 at an Ad agency...MAKE MINE MARVEL!"

Most Image and Marvel that I read (ASM, Iron Fist, Might Thor, Moon Knight) have letters pages.  Image is especially in tune with them for the vast majority of their titles.  I only read Batman from DC - perhaps with a $2.99 price, they can't afford the letters?
