DETECTIVE COMICS #28
CGC Grade: 2.0 GD
Price: $24,500

JUN 1939; Off-white to white pages. The second appearance of Batman is so tough to find in un-restored condition. Even though Batman didn't make the cover, except for a blurb, he was the lead feature in the book, indicating that DC knew they had a winner on their hands. Fred Guardineer is the cover artist.

DETECTIVE COMICS #35
CGC Grade: 0.5 PR
Price: $11,500

JAN 1940; Cream to off-white pages. "Classic" hypodermic needle cover by Bob Kane. It's the main reason this issue is the fifth-most valuable in the storied run of DC's namesake title. Another reason is an almost equally classic splash page of Batman holding a smoking .45! Consecutive Batman covers begin with this issue. Back cover missing. Front cover detached. Incomplete. Small amount of dried glue on first wrap.

DETECTIVE COMICS #35:news:SOLD PER PM !
CGC Grade: 3.5 VG -
Price: $35,000

JAN 1940; Off-white to white pages. The issue is one of Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics, and any copy that's certified as unrestored is hard to come by. This issue's classic cover marked the beginning of Batman's run as the permanent cover star of the title, a streak that is still going! The book is also famous for its splash panel, which has Batman holding a smoking gun -- now that's a Dark Knight!
