It is going to be interesting to see how this one develops but looks like it is off to a good start

Not something you see every day.

Joe Maneely - Kid Colt Outlaw #53 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1955)

Mike

cool.   I always enjoy seeing rare gems like that, even when they aren't the most valuable things in the auction.

This is from Heritage's site and while I'm sure its accurate it just feels 'wrong' :insane:

'The Spider-Man #100 cover art established a new world record for the most expensive Marvel Comics Silver or Bronze Age cover ever sold at public auction.'

The big qualifier is, of course, “public auction”.

IMO when you blow it up on heritage's site, it doesn't look as good and you can see the date (1990) in the work, if you know what I mean.    Past prime.    Take a look.

That said, its subject matter really closely associated with him so I'm sure it will do well anyways.

I am guessing that there is not a lot of Maneely's stuff floating around?

I think I've only seen 3-4 pieces of his pop up in the major auction houses in the last 8-10 years.  That is going to be an interesting piece to watch.

I *think* there was a few articles written about Maneely in Alter Ego and elsewhere by someone with last name = Vasillo (sp?), who used used of his own Maneely pieces in the articles

I don't think there's much (non-EC) 1950s art, in general

That's DocV, Dr. Michael J. Vassallo.

Maneely art is quite rare, dead at 32.

There's a theory out there that if Maneely hadn't met tragedy, Stan would not have needed Jack and The King of Comics would be Joe Maneely.
