I factored that front cover scratch into my 9.0 grade as well.

I took .2 off for top left scratch, .2 off for top staple wear, and .2 off for back cvr rt side scuffs and gave it the 9.4.  The Yogi with the water stain-thats the one that killed me.  A 5.0?  wow

yeah-- that one shocked me as well-- it has stains galore as well as what I thought was a small fingerprint mark. Perhaps that mark was a production error but it seemed like it had fingerprint ridges on it.

The other tough one for me was the Watchmen book-- I tend to read into those black modern covers as having more problems than are actually there. Also felt the staple was an issue.

Oh well-- good luck everyone.

CGC has hammered me in the past for fingerprints on the back cover.  With the smearing of whatever that was, I figured it had to be worse than fingerprints.  Also, the purple area?  How does a black cover start to go purple?  I guessed that it got wet at some point, as if someone spilt some water on it and quickly wiped it off, thus the colour change.  It seems as though I was wrong, though. lol

that smearing has got to be some scanner defect

Can someone explain how the bye works with regards to points? How did I tie no opponent, and how does that work for future results?

You both submitted no grades, thus a tie... It doesn't effect anything for future results. You advance automatically regardless of score for this round. The win loss results are just for show, it's the score for each round that matters.

You'll face an actual opponent in the next round (round of 64).

Thanks. I think I understand...maybe not. Ah well. I understand that it's an automatic move on...Betty explained that a while ago...I was just wondering how a "tie" is figured in this case.

As far as facing an actual opponent, I would hope so. ;)

I sent PMs to the two contestants alerting them about the overtime book.

Yeah, the bye means that you move on regardless. The -20 score is a technicality as if all books were graded with a more than 2 grades off score of -5 per book.

If there is an actual tie between two real players (no "BYE"), BUTM would post books to use as a tie-breaker between those people, thus putting that round into "overtime" for those players. The winner of the tie-breaker advances.

It's all very basketbally... I'm just hoping for my participation certificate.
