Marwood, I have a painting on my glass studio wall up about twelve feet of a fighter pilot behind an enemy fighter. It was done by this guy named Phil Wilburn back in the mid fifties and he made the cover of Time Magazine as an up and coming artist in Detroit at the time.  He had an assistant named Roy Lichtenstein at that time. Phil never handled his rise well sadly. but Roy took off with it. I will try to post a picture of it but I'm so bad at these basic skills. I got the painting back around 1975 20 years after the fact. .

The Point? The painting has the guns saying "Takka Takka Takka!!!" He had great teeth.  Phil later found eastern religion and wanted to change it to Buddha Buddha Buddha!!! I would not let him. It's still on the wall today.  I have no Idea what might have occurred if he found the Church of England.  ( I want a divorce?)

Nice story. Try and post the picture if you can Glassman, I'd like to see it.

I'm afraid I can only find two budda's in the 6d Charlie pile, so these will have to do for now:

Enjoy the bonus krak :)

Thoroughly enjoying the thread, though I do wish the ambit was a little more than pence Charltons.

Disclaimer: I am a Charlton "so bad they are good" fan.

Oh, and I do miss "Charlton Guy" - Soren.

To my (eventual) point. This cover cannot be anything but a shot at Jack (Kirby) in the gentlest possible way.

" A little man"? Well, he would struggle to get a start on most basketball teams.

"When he sleeps he does more than dream".  Sounds about right.

Anyway, carry on - I'll have more drivel to follow (from me, of course).

What brain dead editor thought this would make a great cover - certain to reel in the kids as they contemplated the horror of " The Two-Headed Glip"? lol

I understand what the intent was - create a scary monster from a two-year old's point of view - but the execution is just woeful.

Hello Duffman,  nice to see you drop in. It's funny you picked out the Kirby cover as I was going to do a post on it myself. You saved me the trouble! Do you think, at the time,  Kirby was 'unimportant....unknown'? Not as a gentle a shot as first appears maybe hm

Keep the drivel coming, it's always nice to get some feedback in the pence graveyards. The ambit is indeed solely Charlton, but you can always pop over to my other threads to find comparable witterings there. Check my signature links or, if you don't have them turned on, my profile page :)

Never mind the visual inadequacies of the THG Duffman,  check out the $100 bargain. A hundred dollars!

Don't start me up. I am old enough to remember buying $100 cars. Registered and serviceable and all.

This cover proclamation was not at all shocking to moi.

Was Stevie D working at Charlton at this time?Bad blood maybe?

Perhaps the mob fellows rumoured to be working with Charlton at the time tried to strong arm Jack and he refused?I've read he was quite the tough character.
