"We've got them now, Caruz!"

"Jesus, look at that speech bubble Dave"

"What?"

"The Kid's speech bubble. Look at all the room at the top"

"What?"

"What a waste. It could easily be half the size and still fit all that wording in"

"Oh yeah. I see what you mean..."

"At last! You've finally met your master, Bonney"

"That's Mister. Mister Bonney"

"Mister Bonney. Master is for kids"

"You are a Kid"

"Hey... you're good"

Meanwhile, Black Furious gate crashes the party.

"He's hurt bad Snake! Why?"

"He fell over"

"Oh, did he? Right"

"And who are you calling a 'snake' anyway?"

"Just kidding"

"Heh heh, Is that why they call you the Kid?

"No"

"Well...why do they?"

"Cos I look young an all"

"You what! I've seen younger dinosaurs! You look about eighty"

"You take that back!"

"Billy the Kid! Billy the Crock more like"

"Snake!"

Morning Charlies  :)

Looks like the love of Charlton pence copies has caught the virus judging by the reaction to the last two posts here.

No matter, here's a beauty, War Heroes #1:

1608287988_WarHeroes1(Vol.1)February1963(9d).thumb.jpg.83f7913953b3dbcc9cc86c1b96339a9c.jpg

It's the first and only copy I've seen since I started this charade and features the true story of "Manila John" bashing one out.

I'm up to a whopping 496 confirmed copies now of the total 832 possible and own most of them. Just 4 shy of the big Clangers event. And to think the majority of UK comic shops and dealers didn't even know they existed when I started out. Just shows you how Marvel lead the pack in most everything doesn't it. Still, some of us are a little more discerning in our collecting habits and like the stuff under the radar.

I'm having great fun in isolation, sorting through them all and scanning the last few months acquisitions:

Although it's likely no one will read or comment on this, I'll end with a customary "See ya".

See ya! :)

First time I have seen one of these and now I want one, pence or no pence. A great "crossover" character. Sgt John Basilone, yes, a real person, featured heavily in the Spielberg/Hanks et al series "The Pacific" .

If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour . . .

Thanks for the tip Duff. It seems to be quite a scarce book in any denomination.

Mum's everywhere burned it on sight.. But... that "Snake" bears a striking resemblance to Ephram Zimbalist Junior... Inquiring minds....

Morning Charlies :)

Gorgo was on the telly this morning - the 1961 film, courtesy of 'Talking Pictures', a free to air TV channel available in Englandville.

Kaiju GIF - Find on GIFER

Made a right mess of London he did.

I've got #1-15 of Gorgo now, and his Revenge. Only #16 - the final eligible pence issue - is currently in hiding, if indeed it even exists.

I quite like Gorgo as it goes.

"They devised a way to do it. They found a place to do it"

But in the end they blew it.

Rarrr!

While we're here, for those that remember the posts, I'm still no nearer discovering who 'RV' were:

rv.jpg.496e66e80ccae3d5b43dc05d48f8845b.jpg

I've found loads of examples of their stamp on cents Charltons dated around 1964 and 65 so whoever they were their copies have found their way out into the world in some considerable numbers:

rv.thumb.PNG.caab0cb33c396c442de4c1c265400f57.PNG

Here's a new one though - 'RW':

RW.jpg.9b99e916387cc9eb358d9ce3fbb640de.jpg

That's a funky stamp isn't it? Very arty. Who knew that Roy Walker of TVs Catchphrase fame sold comics? (Thirty parnes!)

I wonder if RV and RW knew each other.....hm

Anyway, the L Miller 9d printed copies stopped with cover date December 1963. The earliest RV 9d cover stamp example I have is cover date February 1964 and I have examples for most months leading up to July 1965. So maybe 'RV' stepped in the distribution of some Charltons once L Miller stopped. Or maybe RV is just one prolific shop whose copies turn up whenever one of their old customers hits eBay.

We may never know...

But whoever they were, they liked the Horror Magazines too:

I like that this copy has a stamp fight off between RV and T&P
