Oh yeah. Good spot. I like the way the Charlton blurb says "Don't miss the Space Serpent!"

Like you could,  size of the damn thing...

This according to the comments this is the Charlton printing presses...

Cheers Gnash. I have watched that before,  but it's nice to see it again. Amazing to think some of our old books came from there. Just a job for the workers I bet though. I wonder how many were smuggled home each night though. As for Charlton,  I'm sure I read they self printed on a press that was designed for cereal boxes.  Here's a comment from Wikipedia :

Charlton was unique among comic book companies in that it controlled all areas of publishing - from editorial to printing to distribution - rather than working with outside printers and distributors as did most other publishers. It did so under one roof at its Derby headquarters.

Then we're not at Charlton!? I have to say, although the picture quality is bad, I didn't think the comic cover they were showing near the end was anything to do with Charlton, looked far too good!! Heavily pixelated  also, so may have been porn. (:

It looked like a copy of Donga. Sorry, Konga

Timmy the Timid Ghost!

:whatthe: Image result for jack skellington scary gif :whatthe:

Here's a few of our Timmy's. Those in the know of the knowing know all knowledge know that these are not all of the Timmy's. There are other Timmy's.

But they will come.

Oh yes, they will come (those in the complete knowing know all knowledge know this)

Andy, did you draw on my Timmy? @goldust40

Morning Charlies :)

I got a new Timmy in today, to keep the copy that Andy drew all over company:

Timmy gets lonely you see, being an apparition cursed with timidity. Although the little family fish look like they make take him in.

I love Timmy Image result for cardiacs timmy

Today is the 6th of October and it's raining as it should be. This time 28 years ago I was getting married to my first wife Anne. Two years later on the 7th, the decree nisi came through on our divorce. I often wonder what might have happened if I had not been so young and immature.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll be at the London Fair, walking the wistful way around the backstreets, wondering.

Today, the 6th, will also be remembered as the day I hit 400 Charlies:

1516788804_2_7400.thumb.PNG.b6d46bb6fb542f02b768e654e4bb7f92.PNG

Only 432 left to find.

A pointless pursuit I'm sure many will think. I don't care. It keeps me going. What else is there to keep you going?

A day of pottering ensues...

Great day at the comic fair today :)

One of those rare times where you actually find loads of new things. I got new pence Dells, Archie's and Charlton's and may even have picked another Miller Marvel off (haven't opened it yet).

If you follow my threads you'll know I like printing errors. Even though I already have a copy, I couldn't resist this Reptilicus #1 here:

1764241189_Reptilicus1(Vol.1)August1961(6d)Missingblackink.thumb.jpg.07e5e535e430e9aaaa8076a51c3fc6cc.jpg

Not a spectacular error by any means, just a distinct lack of black ink on the cover. Compare it to my other copy and you'll see what I mean:

The back cover shows an equal lack of ink, sealing the deal (no sun fades in this thread! And anyway, black isn't the first to go):

I'll summarise all the new finds later.

I picked these two up as well - I already have copies but these were too nice, and too cheap, to leave behind:

You don't see them often in this grade :)

So, a successful trip to the comic fair yesterday. Some new finds, some books new to my collection and some nice upgrades. Here are a few highlights.

A nice early Teen Confessions #12 in great shape and with a poor lass afraid to love:

1279925085_TeenConfessions12(Vol.1)July1961(6d).thumb.jpg.d1b529fe1578569f95b2624f071c455e.jpg

Isn't it always the way.

Another Timmy! Did I tell you I loved Timmy? No? Well yes. I love Timmy. This is the last pence copy in the run - number 41 - before pence prices scarper:

1314030292_TimmytheTimidGhost41(Vol.1)Nov1963(9d).thumb.jpg.482decba1a99c2b01a1cb818da06e30a.jpg

This Freddy #37 has a great cover. It's very busy, which I like, and just a lovely composition. I like it when you get the head - or heads in this case - of the title characters sitting with the title:

1191373213_Freddy37(Vol.2)December1962(9d).thumb.jpg.498cf6e558a419a926db5432470dcc75.jpg

Nice car!

Hunk #1, with a title banner oddly reminiscent of a similar sounding title (Hulk.gif.f6e19fb05565750f8889eca0793ecde9.gifleave it!). Hunk is a fairly obscure title and this is the only book I own so far of the four pence copies I've found to exist:

32550106_Hunk1(Vol1)August1961(6d).thumb.jpg.2f1792e0ce2efd8733135cc130d502fb.jpg

Ahhh :x

Two pages from the Love Diary conclude the show today - pages 15 and 17:

2000427254_LoveDiary15(Vol.1)April1961(6d).thumb.jpg.8866084a2619aadc2a7005fe5d4c3407.jpg 1048346964_LoveDiary17(Vol.1)August1961(6d).thumb.jpg.2c591761defcddb813caeb4f1dd6ea25.jpg

My word these are nice. I like the hand drawn competition on page 17 which looks like it is part of the original artwork. Much better than the usual printed blurb on page 15. I haven't read them yet but I do hope Sally finds a hubby :wishluck:

I may take a break from this thread now and concentrate on loading all the 400+ images I have up to the GCD. I doubt anyone will notice based on the responses I've been getting lately but you cant really expect it when the books are so 'obscure' I suppose.

Ciao!

Afternoon :)

We're up to 413 confirmed Charlton pence copies now boys and girls - nearly half of what may turn out to exist:

413.PNG.cf57dfe5bcf1bf5c5b516aa63edcf1bc.PNG

I've got 313 of them now. I know, I know. It keeps me occupied. I had some fun the other day printing labels for the red dividers I posted pictures of earlier in the thread. Dymo's come on a bit since I last used it. None of the old manual work with the raised white wording in thick black plastic. It's all sleek automation now:

chbox.thumb.jpg.ab415f4f2f53b51092aa1eb380eef55f.jpg

Some of the titles are a bit long though. Gorgo and Konga are supportively short, but Cynthia Doyle, Nurse in Love is pushing it a bit.

Talking of our Cynthia, and her requirement to always be standing in a door way, it's always ice when you discover that your duplicate copies are different to the existing ones isn't it. Two examples here:

First up, Cynthia, with a big miscut at the top:

502958756_CynthiaDoyleNurseinLove67(Vol.2)December1962(9d).thumb.jpg.6764e7165c5a0146e45d931c9ff01b1a.jpg  cde.thumb.jpg.5fefaa02c01143e68653e22945697e32.jpg

What a whopper! Give me a bad cut on my second copy any day of the week :headbang:

cde2.jpg.8d6ab1cea98f6ceca8fa1d9eed96456b.jpg

Next up, Space Adventures! One very grey, one very blue.

And just look at the pants on that guy. Is he rocking the purple and green or what? Or pink and green, in the other cover.

sab.thumb.jpg.5c023f64a322a007b2ac372e351eb39a.jpg  sag.thumb.jpg.2c8b7070a50146db88b1b2a6e6bfb5c2.jpg

Me like! :headbang:

P.S. If you want to know whether the guy at the hospital is one of the robots you are convinced have taken over the world, look for the subtle giveaway of a massive rectangular grid on his forehead.  It's a sign.
