20,000 google bot, sorry, member views :)

That's got to be worth a Clanger celebration, hasn't it?

I'll do it then.

Anyway, you wouldn't believe the bother I had adding this one to the Charlie pile. A story for another day...

Morning Charlies :)

As things stand my working assumption is that a pence copy should exist for every Charlton book in the date range I've documented. That's 833 books, and I have confirmation of 472 so far.

When you trawl ebay as often as I do, you see the same old books coming up time and time again.

Here's an example:

Capture.thumb.PNG.08a2156218d8fe57e70ea0671eac04e4.PNG

The three books above and below the 10c Secrets of the Young Brides #30 are pence copies. I've lost count of how many times new sellers appear with those same three books (and a few other 'regulars'). The interesting part is that I have seen multiple scenarios where the SOTYB #30 is listed by a UK seller, among other pence copies, and is always cents priced. So it makes me wonder whether some of the missing pence copies did not get the pence treatment. When you see the same scenario repeated, with different sellers, it starts to look like something.

So Who knows whether Secrets of the Young Brides #30 will ever appear as a pence copy?

I'll have to ask him...

Here's a new one, Space Adventures #52, July 1963 :)

1304319129_SpaceAdventures52(Vol.3)July1963(9d).thumb.jpg.31d28ad701fea66a1cfa67a9c264f254.jpg

It brings me up to 421 copies now. I must be mad.

Quite a bit of snogging goes on in the "Wings of Odna". All the stories are charmingly entertaining in fact. I'd make something more of it but this morning, after last night's outrageous attack, I just don't feel like it.

And here I've been looking for the graphic novel version of "Peyton Place" as a pence variant with no success at all.

It exists Pete. The opening line is as follows:

"Her hair hung across her face, like a bush hangs across a wall..."

Cover price, 33 1/3d :)

You know the feeling don't you. You've been collecting comics for 800 years and, in between training Jedi younglings, you've had more parcels land on the mat than jsilverjanet has had likes from greggy. But every so often there's a parcel that is special. A parcel that you've been waiting for. You know the ones - the ones that make you feel the kind of excitement normally reserved for young children (can you have old children by the way?)

Today - Friday the 13th (dun-dun-duuuhhhhhhn!) - is one of those days.

Ta-daahhh!

Despite mucking about with comics for ever, and in Englandville too, I have never - repeat, never bought anything off of Compal. Anyone who lives in Englandville with a love of all things Comicana will know of Compal. Not to be confused with a special supplement drink (Complan) or that thing you do in Sainsbury's (Complain), Compal are a donkeys years old British auction house. I've been getting their catalogues, or watching them online as we have to now, for as long as I can remember memories.

Yes Sir I will. I will handle that PP3 with care, don't you worry mate. I'll take care, I'll tell you that for nothing - I won't charge you.

You wouldn't believe what I had to bid to win these. But Jeptha Judge of Israel, when I opened that package my comic loins stirred and all thoughts of purchase prices flew right out of the window like a thing that flies out of a window when given the chance.

Look at these!

My Comic God in Heaven I'm in love with comics. Look at these beauties :luhv:

Look at them!

Those in the know of the know all knowing knowledge will know that our Cynthia adorns the Marwood Towers Avatar.

Quite right too. Everyone loves a ginger.

But I do love a Betsy too. Here are three of the finest pence Betsy's you will ever feast your mince pies on:

"I'm sorry Betsy, there is no hope"

"They're just tears Tom"

"Betsy, come on now. We can get him another shirt"

"Oh Tom..."

"But Diane... You've known Jeff for such a short time... What if it turns out he's a raving lunatic. Or a rabid eyebrow monster"

"Oh Betsy..."

"Oi - Stumpy - SIT DOWN!"

And look at this - my first HSCD - one of only two pence copies known (to me):

Take my love and put it in your love place! You may even get a free swimming pool out of it!

So, there you go. I'm delighted with this parcel from Compal today.

A great day in Penceville

T-ra :)
