That CAF listing is recent.  Wasn’t there at time in question.

Then for Spencer, maybe this was an exercise in "lesson learned."

I still don't understand the actual timing of events in the OP. First, he wrote: "I was wondering if anyone had any dealings with Spencer Beck? I didn't really have a good outcome, I e-mailed him in September about a question about George Perez' commissions, ..."

Then, it looked like the work was done on 9/23. Then, it looks like the OP had his nasty exchange with Spencer several months later. So, if Spencer didn't have reason to think there was a problem until after September, why would he add this in September? Just wondering.

There was a few exchanges made a few months before the heated exchange (January and December) (I thought I added that?) September was when I messaged general query questions, I received the invoice around the 23rd and didn’t respond because I didn’t think of it at the time because I thought that was for me and thought he would message me back about it on when I’ll pay for George to start, though he did 3 weeks later but said the piece was finished.

This doesn’t sound like Spencer at all.  I think we have your point of view regarding the exchange, albeit with additional details each time you post a response here.

so while I do feel some sense of empathy towards your financial situation, I think some pertinent facts have yet to be revealed

From CAF, and note the requirement of payment up front, which raises a whole 'nother question of whether the OP has a good reason to be disturbed:

Each commission will be limited to one single character per drawing,
usually drawn with Copic markers with added pencil tones on 9 x 12 Bristol
board. . I prefer using the pencil tones because detailed ink work is a bit eye
wearying right now, especially with my vision treatments still ongoing. No
backgrounds will be added unless I choose to add something minimal subject
to my own judgement on the composition.
The price is $700.00 plus shipping, which I know is not cheap, but I will
try to make it worth the cost.
Payment in full would be required before the commission will be started.
However, it will be held in escrow so if at any time you wish a full refund
( and your piece has not yet been started ) the money can be refunded to
you within 1 business day. Depending on the number of orders, it may take a
substantial amount of time and there is no guarantee that I will be able to
draw every request I receive.

no thanks lol

I've really looked at this situation pretty closely, and nothing is to be gained by dwelling on what appears to be an accident. If I thought you were being unfairly treated, I would say so. Just move on.

Agreed, I’m pretty much going on with my life and move on, I’d like to thank everyone who posted cause it helped me understand this type of business a bit better! Is there a way to lock the thread? Cause I feel like it’s time to, nothing really more can be said

edit: spoke to the mod about it, so we’ll just let the thread die off.

True, I thought the invoice it was for me when I was able to pay because that's how I thought things worked, I'm still a bit new at this , And I also asked about the commission before I had financial problems and was hoping to pay soon, though my job doesn’t pay well so it would be a while to pay, I didn’t think to say anything about canceling because of that reason, around the time the piece was finished ( a few weeks after) was when my financial problems came about, also I’m slightly autistic so it’s a bit difficult to understand a few things and also why my writing style is a bit confusing. Yea, the reason I posted this was because as a lesson for others who have problems like this as well.

I'm beginning to see why you are in financial problems.  I'm also getting tired of people using autism as an excuse.

Actually no that’s not the case I’m in financial problems, and how is it an excuse when it’s true, sometimes they’re things I don’t understand fully

I have almost the same sketch but its from 1977 and I think I paid $10 for it. Have a great pencil only Warlock that cost me $2. Timing is everything. I originally wanted Strider from LOTRs but he had never heard of the character.

So before you pack it in, do you think, perhaps, that you should contact Spencer to apologize?

Bad deal. If 15% annualized is your baseline ROI as it is for me, then $10 forty years ago is worth a lot more ($1200ish) than $700 today.

Compounded, and just running it in excel, I get $2300 at 15%.    But I think any hard and fast compounded ROI is flawed, there are so many other considerations not the least of which is plain enjoyment.

Also, its so sensitive to tweaking the rate.    15% = $2300 but 10% = $400.

I did it on my fingers, roughly doubles every five years for eight times (40 years). Did I miss a final double?

I actually did apologies to him but never got a response.

Why the apology if u were billed for something u didnt order and then got cursed out for it.   I dont get why people are giving u a hard time for sharing a bad experience.

If you read the thread again, you will come to realize that not all was as stated by the OP.
