And publishers have "stickered" books before when they've made mistakes..the wrong month code in the Action #759 you point out above is a good example. Same with the Eternal Warriors #1 with the "Oops" price sticker.

It was #3 in that series - visual reference:

Ok I messaged the seller about the 2nd print with newsstand sticker;

We had a Hastings in Auburn AL.   They did not normally sell new comic books but rather re-sold used ones (very similar to 2nd and Charles).  It would not surprise me if they put their own stickers on the Superman 75's.

Thanks to Cpt Kirk for the trade, a couple of books involved.  Unfortunately one glaring omission, but an easy one, I'll either have it, or have it on the way within the week.  Being a Superman collector of this era means getting lots of duplicates of #75 in bulk auctions, I just never made it a priority figuring it would come in with something else.  I don't think I ever noticed the back covers before.  The stickers on the 2nd and 4th print are different, the 'EN' is in a different place and 2nd print is 1/8" longer.  Wish I had more to add on origins, this is making for interesting reading.

Love that you took the ruler out to measure the stickers :headbang:

Here is the newsstand sticker that was placed over the direct sales UPC on the deluxe version of Action Comics 695.   I know of only 2 of these stickered copies, and I think they both came from the same place.  When the appearance of the sticker is really hard to find (e.g., just one or two known) it makes me think that some store put the sticker on there, as RockMyAmadeus stated.

dagnabit kenaran...  now I've got these stickers on the brain.   Many moons ago I found a Superman 80 with newsstand sticker placed over a direct sales UPC, just like your Superman 75 IV new sticker.   I thought it might just be a fluke.  Today I found another Superman 80 with news sticker at a 2nd and Charles.    Attached are a couple photos of them.

For whatever it is worth, the stickers on Superman 75 2nd printing and 4th printing were both placed over a direct sales UPC box.

Which makes complete sense for a retailer to do. You want a sticker? I got your stickas right heeeeere. :sumo:

LOL.  I agree there's not much to those stickers.   For me, it's more of a matter of research and documentation.   It is interesting to me which comics got the stickers.

Looks like a 4th print newsstand with a sticker (although faded), very odd, what would be the point?

A store that had its own internal UPC coding, even though part of the newsstand distribution system. This was almost certainly a retail book store.

Seems you’re on the right track, the seller said he got it from someone that worked at a distribution center.

Kenaran -- dang it... now you have me looking for stickers!    I found an Action 775 newsstand issue with sticker on it in Asheville last weekend (truth is, my wife pulled it out and asked if I needed that newsstand issue... go figure)

Turns out Action 775 newsstand issues have an error on the bar code.  They have a little number "4" at the tail end of the serial number on the underside of the bar code.   All other Action Comics newsstand issues have a the number "3" in that spot of the serial number.    The sticker has the correct number "3" in that spot.   See photos, which hopefully are clear enough to see that number.

I hope this doesn't cause me to start checking all these numbers on other newsstand issues looking for similar defects... I ain't doin' it!
