Second City Collection Auction Highlights: Shadow Comics “Back during the Golden Age of comics, The Shadow was one of the most-popular pop-cultural icons happening, he was the star of a hit radio show, as well as a series of pulp magazines, so it was inevitable that he would go on to appear in the new medium that was taking the country by storm, the comic book.” Stated Frank Cwiklik, Director of Sales at the Guinness World Record auction house. “Issue #1 of Shadow Comics, much like Action Comics #1, was primarily comprised of an assemblage of newspaper strips reconfigured to fit into the new format. It was a no-brainer at the time to transpose this beloved character into the funny books, and lo and behold, a comic book franchise was born.
