I’m guilty of the “same digit” bid. 666 I have used quite a bit. I’ve won a few killer books with 8888.

Also for strategy sake, who would you say wins more? The 999 bid or the 1001?

Ive bid my birthday tons of times $13.67, $1367.00 etc

I like to win by .01 to .05, so I tend to go by fives and then the .01 or .05, such as 35.05 or 40.02

Can't do that on Clink, but I have won several on $1 over bids - $101, $151, etc.

If I'm just placing a marker bid, I try to get it to come out to the issue number (for instance, Batman 457 for $4.57). I usually get it wrong as many times someone already has a bid in and I miscalculate how much will be added to the enemy's bid to beat mine, but it gives me a small chuckle when it come out right. I figure someone else will see it, too, and maybe crack a little smile. Just my way of spreading joy around.

I do have one friend that when he wants something on ebay he never loses.  Example an item was up to $300 so he sniped a bid of $5000.

I used to over bid in my early days of Ebay and found that I always paid far too much now I wait until the last 7 seconds and then bid, works most of the time and I pay what I can afford.

I'll usually put some odd amount for the dollars and cents (46.84, 58.63) but also, odious as it might sound, at the last snipe-filled moment though keeping in mind the bottom-line number I don't want to exceed.

Way back when, if it was something I really wanted, I used to bid an outlandish sum and just expect it would win.  There was a great science fiction S&P set that I really wanted to get for my ex's birthday so I tried that stunt and still had to sweat it out at the end.  Theoretically I was almost assured of winning, but then some weasels came around nickel-and-diming and I just paid much more than what I would have normally.  In the end, the ex kept that S&P and I was lucky to escape with my comics.  Probably some kind of moral in there somewhere.
