Marvel Exhibit and more at Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture 1 1

So, this may have been shared before but I figured another dose of classic Marvel goodness never hurt...

Two weeks ago we were on vacation out in Seattle. I knew we were planning on visiting this museum, near the Space Needle. Little did I know how cool it was! (Or at least someone like me. Wife and oldest daughter were "eh".) I took a bunch of pictures and thought I'd share them. 

Now, I'm not sure if the Marvel Exhibit is a traveling one but it shocked me with all the original comics, art and costumes. The opening 4 minute video was very good though I was struck with the lesser focus on Spidey and the X-Men. Not sure if it was Disney's hand in it or not. While I didn't get a picture, the first exhibit you go to after the video had a CGC VG4.0 Marvel Comics #1 there on loan. The next booth had the following:

Oh my lord, the aficionado in me went into overdrive. Surely my family understood the importance of these...   I noticed that a lot of the original art was on loan from an "Eric Roberts". Someone from here? The actor?

So, after that area, you go through a number of themed rooms. Being a Bronze Age X-Men fan, the GS X-Men #1 and Byrne cover were awesome to behold. The Romita concept art for Spiderman #129 was very cool. These are only a smattering of what is there. I would guess I only took pictures of less than 20%. (I needed my 14 year old self from 1980 along...)

Additionally, there is a Horror, Sci- Fi, Fantasy and HOF section. All the following pictures are original costumes or props. (Oh, and I left out all the Rock and Roll items except the drum kit from John Bonham. Again just a small amount of what's there. If in the area, I highly recommend! Thanks for letting me share.

No booklets I saw. Very clever set ups for all exhibits. Star Trek was closed while there. Bummer.

Glad you liked the exhibit...  the organizers have talked about making it an international travelling exhibit, but it's going to be in Seattle until January.  So, people have the rest of the year to see it.  There are plans for an exhibit catalog, but it isn't out yet... will hopefully be out before the show wraps in Seattle.  

As you can imagine, Marvel leant most of the costumes/props to the exhibit, however this exhibit was very reliant on collectors to make happen.  Dave Mandel (Veep Showrunner) and Eric Roberts were the two major lenders, but other collectors including yours truly (those were my Punisher pieces), Ben Saunders (the curator), Jim Halperin, Rob Klein, Dan Lanigan, Kelvin Williams, and others leant to this collection to make it as spectacular as it is.  And, as tax payers, you should be proud that the Library of Congress also leant a page from Amazing Fantasy #15 for the first few months of the exhibit.
