What is the most you ever spent on a comic for your collection and not for selling?

I started seriously collecting comics in 2009. When I bought the overstreet guide that year, I wanted to set a goal to buy the top 10 books from both the silver and bronze age. What's funny is that as soon as I crack a certain price point, it gets easier to make the decision on buying the next expensive book (although my credit card was hurting).

Some of my biggest purchases include (ranked by favorites):

IH 181 8.5 $1,200

AF15 3.0 $12,000

DD 1 4.0 $625

Hulk 1 3.0 $10,500

Flash 105 4.0 $1,000 (wish I saved for showcase instead)

TOS 39 4.0 $5,900 (recent CLink and overpaid)

JIM 83 4.0 $6,300 (bought with TOS and overpaid)

Justice League 1 4.0 $1,000

Brave and bold 5.0 $4,500

Avengers 1 4.0 $2,500

GL 1 4.0 $650

Sold my ASM 1 3.0 4 years ago and I'm still upset at myself for that decision.

What I try to do is set clear goals every year on books I want. and i then try to be disciplined on not buying things I don't need (as simple as coffee)

My objective for 2019 is a turtles 1 in mid/high grade.

TMNT 1 9.0 white pages SS first print $5300

Hulk 181 9.0 white pages $4327 (sold two under copy books that I had bought years ago, paid 2k for both.  Sold them for $4500)

The first 100 issues of the walking dead for $2800.  Both #1 and #2 came back 9.8.

All other slabs 2k and under

I've spent more than $2k on a comic only three times.

Showcase # 4, CGC 3.0 for $2,100 -- long before the show made the book explode. Sold it two years later to Gator at a profit, but not the 4-5x it goes for today.

All-American # 19, CGC 5.0 for $2,700 -- later sold for an engagement ring.

Fighting Yank # 10, CGC 4.0 for $2,150.

I've only spent over $1k on a comic twice:

TMNT #1 CGC 8.5 for just under $1900 (2012)

ASM #3 CGC 4.0 for $1080 (2017)

ASM #2 CGC 4.0 is a close third but it was like $850 (2014)

unless I go for coverless (which probably won't happen), the next comic I'll probably spend over 1k on is ASM 1.

I really try not to think about it because it reminds me of all the more practical things I should have done with the money.

I’m the opposite way. I just had to spend $500 deductible repairing my car from a tree falling on it, and another $1200 to remove the tree and get the rest of it taken down. And all I can think of is the cool books I could have purchased with that money.

$1800.00 US for a professionally restored FF #1 about 6 or 7 years ago...maybe longer. Has the look of a VF in it's current condition. A steal when you think about what a VG is selling for now.
