Different CGC inner well sytles
1 1

So it seems CGC has at least a couple different inner well designs.

I prefer the one pictured below with the recessed well and the slots at the corner. This style keeps the book centered (off-center slabbed books drive me crazy) and also seems to minimize Newton rings.

Question - Is it possible to request this inner well style when having books graded/reholdered and, if so, what is this style called so I can note it on my submission forms?

In addition to the inner well the outer cases can also be different.

I am with you: I would like whatever combination of inner well / outer case that does not have the newton rings. I have been lucky so far as I have received slabs without newton rings so far in the last 2 years.

None of the golden aged books have newton rings.

The few moderns I have received also do not have newton rings.

:bump:

Does anyone know how CGC determines which inner wells to use and what the advantages are for each of the different styles?

Has anyone ever seen an inner well that moves when the slab is tilted or turned upside down?
